18 Before 2018 | Sitting In The Clouds

I don’t want to scare you all but we only have 74 days until 2018 will be upon us. I’ll let that sink in for a minute. Sunk in yet? Didn’t think so. The new year has a reputation of being a new start, allowing yourself to become a better you and starting the new year off on the right foot. But how can you do that when you leave your to-do incomplete?

I love a good old list. Therefore writing a list of 18 things I want to complete, start and form a habit of or continue with so my 2018 can have the best possible start, is a great way to keep me accountable so the “new year, new you” can hold true.

(I’ve taken inspiration from Lisa Jacobs from Market Your Creativity for this blog post. Boho Berry, my bullet journal main inspiration has also done this)

1 Yoga – I started doing Yoga at the beginning of the month as a form of relaxation before bed, as well as an added exercise in my daily routine. I’ve been really enjoying it and I hope I can keep up my motivation to do it into the new year.

2 Reach my reading goal – Since becoming an avid reader in 2014, I’ve been setting myself yearly goals of how many books I want to read each year with the help of Goodreads. I set my goal at 50 this year. I’ve currently read 44 so I think I can achieve it as long as a reading slump doesn’t hit me.

3 Take more pictures – I haven’t been taking many pictures this year and it saddens me. “Photos are a return ticket to moments otherwise gone.” I can’t leave 2017 behind without pictures to remember the year by.

4 Stay on top of university work – I would hate the new year to start of stressed because of the amount of work I have to do, especially seeing as my first submission deadline is just after Christmas. I would hate to be thinking about it and be cramming in last minute work over the Christmas holidays.

Keep up with my blog – YAY for me being back after nearly 2 months. I just hope that my motivation stays for the rest of the year.

6 Custom domain – I’ve hit 1,000 followers, and I still can’t believe. I would love to celebrate with finally getting rid of .wordpress.com out of my site address, but it’s not cheap and being at uni every penny is stretched.Screen Shot 2017-10-19 at 17.13.01

7 Continue building my savings account – I have a target in mind but don’t want to share…sorry. Out of my sister and I, I’m the saver and she’s the spender.

8 Appreciate the little things – I’m one for looking at the bigger picture, all the time thinking about the future and how what I’m doing at the minute will affect my life in a days time, a months time and even a years time. I want to start noticing and appreciating the little things. I may start a gratitude log in my bullet journal to assist me.

9 Finish my YouToons Project – If you didn’t know, I’m a graphic design, working part-time in a design studio and studying Graphic Design at a university. Over the summer I started my own little project which I titled “YouToons”. Designing my favourite YouTubers as cartoons. I would love to get this completed by the start of the new year.

Here is a sneak peek at what it may look like. This is Adam Hattan, who is a Disney vlogger and also features in my 5 Youtubers You Should Be Watching

10 Have a Social Media clear out – Only today my boyfriend messaged me saying he had just unfriend over 600 people he had on Facebook he no longer connected with. This got me thinking about the amount of “friends” I have on Facebook that are just there. I now want to go and unfriend people I no longer speak to. As well as declutter Instagram and Twitter.

11 Sort out my wardrobe – I do this a couple of times a year but I always end up keeping things I know I will never wear as I’m quite a sentimental person. This time around, I want to have a proper sort out, get rid of EVERYTHING I won’t wear anymore.

12 Spend more time with Tom – As I’ve started my second year of university and Tom has increased his work hours to save for his upcoming trip to Vegas, we don’t get to see each other too often. When we do see each other it’s just hanging out at each other’s houses, I would love to have more date nights, more cinema trips, more eating out etc.

13 Volunteer at least once more – I started volunteering for my favourite charity this year and I love it. I would love to do it more before the year is out.

14 Drive less, walk more – Ever since passing my driving test I resort to my car way more than I should. Recently I have been driving but parking further away from my destination so I’m forced to walk more often. I am also walking up all escalators and stairs, rather than lifts now.

15 Have a social life – I’m an introvert, preferring to stay in and read a book than go out. However, I know I need to step out of my comfort zone and say yes to more outings with friends. It’s harder now all my friends have moved out of home for university but I need to be making more of an effort when they are home.

16 Clear up my skin – I had a period recently where my skin was awful, spots and blemishes all over my chin and forehead. I also got into the habit of popping them, I know…gross!! But I think I’ve found my holy grail product. I no longer have many spots but the scarring is still there.

17 Get my Grandmas edit done – Waaaaaay back in May, my entire family, three generations of us, went to the Cotswold for a family weekend break. It was so much fun. I always film events like these and create an edit afterwards for everyone to enjoy and look back on the great times we had. However, I still haven’t even started my edit for this trip. My excuse is that my computer broke but it’s not good enough. I would love to complete it before Christmas so I can share it with all my on Christmas day.

18 Visit my grandparents in Wales again – My grandparents aren’t getting any younger, so as a family, my aunties and uncles included, take it in turns to go up and visit them for a weekend or so. I usually go with my parents when they head down but I haven’t in a while now, so I’ll make sure I go back down once more before the year is up.

Phew, I thought that blog post was never going to end…haha!! I congratulate you if you got to the end. Have you got any goals that you want to achieve by the end of the year? Are you inspired to set some? Let’s chat in the comments.

Thank you for all your kind words recently, they truly mean the world.

until next time,

What Happens When Your Dreams Shatter Around You?

Five Hundred and Eleven Days Later…

Top 5 Skincare Products | Sitting In The Clouds

All my life I’ve been very lucky with my skin, no teenage acne, only a few spots here and there from eating too much junk, not drinking enough water, you know…the usual. But for the majority of this year my skin has taken a turn. It’s still not severe but for me but I’m struggling to maintain how it used to be. However without a few holy grail products, I would seriously be lost. And of course some of these products just help me feel pampered.

I use the Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash each morning and evening as my daily face wash. I’m only, at 20, getting around to understanding my skin and what it needs. I’m now pretty sure that my skin is more on the normal/oily side of the spectrum, which means the oil balancing side of this face wash really works well with my skin. The exfoliating beads are super gentle so I can use it twice a day without getting irritation. The scent is barely there, so if your skin is sensitive to perfume or fragrant products, I would suggest giving this one a go.

I actually had a break, a few months back, from this face wash to try a new one…this was a bad mistake on my behalf. It was when I switched things up, my skin really started to break out more and get worse. So I truly believe the Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash is doing good for my skin.

Only very recently I noticed something missing out of my skincare routine that I hadn’t used in ages. This got me thinking, maybe that’s part of the reason my skin isn’t so great at the moment. Lush’s Mask of Magnaminty Face Mask has been a lifesaver for my skin recently.  I never used to leave my cupboard without one, but with university making me stretch every single penny I had, I never had any spare cash to treat my skin to this wonderful face mask. As soon as I could, I restocked my cupboards and have seen an instant difference.

The packaging even states…”This peppermint mask does everything it can to fight eruptions and outbreaks and return your skin to tip top condition“…aka, the miracle product I needed. I use it two or three times a week, depending on my skins condition and whether I have time. I like to apply a generous layer with my fingers, leave it on for 15-20 minutes, then gently remove the mask with a clean flannel. It’s a face mask that tingles a little when it starts to dry on your skin but that personally doesn’t bother me and afterwards it leaves your skin feeling so smooth. I just love this product so much and I’ve definitely learnt my lesson of always having some of this in my bathroom cupboard.

The final product that’s really helped improve my skin over the past four(ish) months is the Nivea 2 in 1 Cleanser & Toner. I’ve never really been into toners because they always made my skin sting and I never saw the point. However, I picked this product up on a whim when completing a 3 for 2 offer on Nivea products and it’s now an essential in my skincare routine.

Applying a grape size amount on a cotton pad and use circle movements to distribute the product around your face and down your neck. I use this product after removing my makeup, it is only a night time ritual for me,  washing my face. Even after removing my makeup and cleaning my skin, there was still makeup in my pores, so this toner & cleanser just ensures my skin gets a deeper clean. It’s also super moisturising so I find I don’t need to apply a night cream after using it.

Now onto the products that just make my skin feel good. I’m guilty of not applying body butter as often as I should and I know my skin punishes me. My legs especially are very dry and itchy. However, during the summer, I always bring the Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Body Buttercream out of the cupboard as it just smells like summer in the tub. It basically just smells like lemon sherbet and I’m a sucker for citrus scents.

I apply this after very shower to moisturise my skin. Super simple but a step I feel most people either skip or forget about. I know for sure sometimes I’m just too lazy. But you need to keep the rest of your skin hydrated as well.

My body butter choices change depending on the season or what I’m feeling but at the moment I’m loving the Sugar Crush Body Buttercream from Soap and Glory.

The final product I’m mentioning today is the Nivea Lip Butter. Ever since using this lip product on a daily basis, every morning and evening, my lips rarely get chapped, when before they were always so dry. Making sure my lips are always moisturized is also a key step in my daily routine.

Without these products my skin would be suffering a lot more but I truly feel like Lush’s Mask of Magnaminty is incredible and allows you to see instant results (I may go do one now).

What are your skincare essentials? Let’s chat in the comments.

Drugstore Haul | Sitting In The Clouds

Welcome Back!!! I know it’s a common fact that all students are poor and to be fair I’m quite wise when it comes to money. However, the government unfortunately doesn’t fund courses taught at the uni I attend so with full time uni and only a part time job, I’m very tight on money and will be for the next three years. But when your favourite makeup items are rolling low, you just have to restock, there’s no questions about it.

I was in desperate need of new concealer, new foundation, new shampoo and conditioner…basically every single one of my favourites, so I jumped straight into the Superdrug website and ordered everything I needed. I did have a  little browse while I was there and was so tempted to add some liquid lipsticks into my basket from Barry M and Makeup Revolution but I just couldn’t justify afford it…*cry face*.

I love Superdrug for makeup and I feel they do such an amazing range of makeup brands and because I’m a Superdrug member I get free delivery without having a minimum spend…win win!

drugstore haul pic text.jpg

Maybelline is one of my favourite drugstore brands, they do my favourite concealer, the Fit Me concealer, as well as my ALL TIME favourite mascara, the Lash Sensational LUSCIOUS, not the original one, although that one is good as well, I just personally prefer the effect on my eyelashes after using the Luscious with Oil Blend formula.

My all time favourite foundation, L’Oreal’s Infallible Matte foundation was out of stock…boo hoo!!! And I couldn’t wait for it be be restocked as I really needed a foundation and since Maybelline had a 3 for 2 offer running, I thought I’d try the Maybelline Fit Me foundation.

I’m hoping I really like this as I’ve heard some really good things about and since it’s in the same line as my favourite concealer, I’m hoping there won’t be too many differences to make me dislike it and love it just as much as the concealer.

I’ll let you know I get on, I’m even thinking about doing a first impression for this foundation.

I’ve been having real issue with my skin lately which I’m really irritated about as my skin has never been this bad before. Therefore, I repurchased a trusty product, the Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash. This product is a really gentle daily exfoliating wash, it really reduces my oil and makes my makeup last longer without primer as well as making my skin feel clean and fresh.

The last couple of products won’t be any surprise to you. I just had to repurchase my favourite hair duo, the Garnier Ulimate Blends shampoo and conditioner.

hair text.jpg

For the time being this hair duo is perfect for me. It smells incredible, it’s really affordable and it actually benefits my hair. I have a full length review about this amazing duo on my blog if you want to hear more. They also feature in about 4 of my empties posts, I just can’t get enough of the stuff.

I also decided to pick up another Batiste Dry Shampoo as although it’s not a necessity, it’s always nice to have a product like this for a day that you may need some extra volume or you skipped a “wash hair day” by accident. I just like having one around the house incase I’m in need.

I personally prefer the “divine dark” edition as with my super dark hair, I always find that the white powder is really hard to massage in completely and it’s just safer with brown powder incase I have missed a spot, it won’t look like I have severe dandruff.

So although you’ve probably seen all these products countless times on my blog before because all I did was repurchase my favourites, I hope you enjoyed the post nevertheless. But for a while now, I won’t be able to try many new products alongside my favourites as I just don’t have the money….MAJOR downside to uni/student life…ahah!

Thanks for reading and supporting my blog. I am so close to 700 WordPress followers which is super exciting, each and every one of you mean so much to me. I love chatting to you guys in the comments, so let me know if you’ve tried any of the products I’ve mentioned and if you love or hate them.

until next time,

5 Empty Pots = 1 Free Face Mask | LUSH Empties | Sitting In The Clouds

Welcome Back!!! Yesterday I used up the last of my Love Lettuce face mask from LUSH which totalled to five empty pots I can now exchange for a free face mask. This is a great enticement for people to bring back empty containers which will then be recycled. I’ve done this giving back, recycling scheme a couple of times now and I love it. It’s especially great at the moment now I’m a student with very little money because when is a free product not a good idea?

Also, if this you like this post, let me know as I’m thinking of it becoming a series. Every time I empty five pots, doing a post, reviewing them, letting you guys know which ones I liked and disliked and what face mask I am thinking of picking up as my next free one.

My sister and I combine our empty pots so we get a free face mask quicker and usually decide and share which free one we get. However, she is currently traveling (Hey Frances, if you’re reading this on a beach somewhere), so although she’s put two pots out of the five I have, I’ll probably have the entire free face mask for myself (sorry Frances).

The first empty pot is Bouncy Bunny, which is my sisters so I can’t really say much about it except I think it’s an exclusive to the Easter range, which is coming out, or is already out in stores? I’m not too sure but I know that Easter isn’t far away as Creme Eggs, Mini Eggs and walls of Easter Eggs are already lined our stores. But I don’t actually think this empty pot will count as it doesn’t have the specific logo on it, so let me know if I’ll still be able to exchange this one for a free face mask?

This is another one of my sister’s tubs but I know she raves and loves this product and I’m pretty sure she isn’t the only one who loves this product. I think it’s loved by a lot of Lush lovers. I personally however, hate the smell of this product so I would never pick it up to use.

Now onto the three pots that I’ve finished up. I swear by Mask of Magnaminty and have repurchased this face mask multiple times. I still love it and do truly believe it helps out my skin in times of need, however I think I’ve discovered a new favourite….

LOVE LETTUCE!! This is actually a free face mask I decided to try after finishing my previous five pots and I love it! It’s a really creamy, smooth consistently which helps application to be really gentle on your skin. Usually I don’t like their “keep in the fridge” face masks because I end up forgetting about them and not using them by their use by date but I love the fact Love Lettuce is a fridge face mask. It makes me skin feel that much more refreshed because the mask is cool when applying it. I’m actually really surprised I love this face mask so much because I’m not a huge fan of the Lavender scent but this face mask has a subtle scent of Lavender that just enhances how refreshing this face mask is. I love it!

I will now be keeping a Love Lettuce in my fridge and a Mask of Magnaminty in my bathroom cupboard because I love both and they both help my skin in different ways. Mask of Magnaminty helps keep my skin clean from spots and helps get rid of them, whereas Love Lettuce just freshens my skin up and helps it feel more hydrated and smooth.

The final empty pot is the Don’t Look At Me face mask. This face mask is meant to really moisturise your skin and although it did that, I think other LUSH face masks do this as well as have other benefits as I feel all Lush face masks moisturise your skin to some extent. And as this is a fridge face mask and I wasn’t a huge fan of it anyway, I completely forgot to use it all. Overall, this is my least favourite LUSH face mask I have tried.

If the Bouncy Bunny pot from my sister does equal my fifth empty tub and I am allowed a free face mask I really want to try LUSH’s Cupcake face mask after Mostly Megan on Youtube raved about it not too long ago.

I’m really hoping Bouncy Bunny does contribute to my five as I really like having at least one LUSH face mask in my collection if I ever feel my skin needs a lift and at the minute I have zero. Help!

Have you used any of these LUSH products I have mentioned? What are your thoughts? Let’s chat in the comments. Also let me know how you liked this type of blog post and if you would like to see more of them in the future.

until next time,

xoxo, rachel

LUSH Review & Demo | Dragon’s Egg Bath Bomb | Sitting In The Clouds

Welcome Back!!! I haven’t had a relaxing bath in a while so over the weekend I thought I’d treat myself and use up my last remaining bath bomb. However, my LUSH collection is looking very bare now with only a backup of my go-to shower gel, Dirty Springwash and the Comforter bubble bar, but did my final LUSH bath bomb let me down or did it live up to all the LUSH hype?

I personally prefer LUSH’s bubble bars as I prefer a bath with bubbles to one without so therefore every time I use a bath bomb I always place in some sort of bubble bath mixture as well. This time I went with Zoella’s Bath Latte Bath and Shower Milk that produces some luscious smelling bubbles, however I personally feel it doesn’t produce enough but that’s down to personal preference. Of course you can add as much Bath Latte into your water as you wish but for £6.00, I try and save the product and use it sparingly, otherwise its get’s used up too quickly for my likely. Anyway enough about Zoella beauty and let’s focus our attention back on the Dragon’s Egg bath bomb from LUSH.

I’m a sucker for anything citrus scented so when I smelt this bath bomb in store I knew it was coming home with me. It was the first time I had ever used Dragon Egg and if it wasn’t for the scent I wouldn’t have picked it up because it really doesn’t look that interesting and to be honest the performance when placed into the bath wasn’t the best I’ve seen after using some other LUSH bath bombs like Intergalactic and the Yoga bath bomb.

It took quite a while to fully dissolve and because of this I didn’t actually photograph the end result of the bath bomb. But it turned the water a gorgeous deep orange colour which I really enjoyed and the scent lingered for a while after the bath bomb had finished exploding so it was definitely a great bath bomb to scent wise, I just wasn’t too impressed with the performance.

With lemon and bergamot oil to cleanse and uplift the user and jasmine to add a hint of floral to the mix, this bath bomb doesn’t have many skin benefits either but I can’t get over how incredible it smells and purely for this reason, I will be picking this bath bomb up again. But overall, it’s not my all time favourite LUSH bath bomb and if it wasn’t for the scent, I really don’t think this particular bath bomb is anything special.

A short and sweet, or shall I saw citrusy blog post today. Have you used LUSH’s Dragon Egg bath bomb? What did you think of it in action? Let’s chat in the comments below.

Thanks for reading and supporting my blog and until next time,

xoxo, rachel
