Top 5 Skincare Products | Sitting In The Clouds

All my life I’ve been very lucky with my skin, no teenage acne, only a few spots here and there from eating too much junk, not drinking enough water, you know…the usual. But for the majority of this year my skin has taken a turn. It’s still not severe but for me but I’m struggling to maintain how it used to be. However without a few holy grail products, I would seriously be lost. And of course some of these products just help me feel pampered.

I use the Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash each morning and evening as my daily face wash. I’m only, at 20, getting around to understanding my skin and what it needs. I’m now pretty sure that my skin is more on the normal/oily side of the spectrum, which means the oil balancing side of this face wash really works well with my skin. The exfoliating beads are super gentle so I can use it twice a day without getting irritation. The scent is barely there, so if your skin is sensitive to perfume or fragrant products, I would suggest giving this one a go.

I actually had a break, a few months back, from this face wash to try a new one…this was a bad mistake on my behalf. It was when I switched things up, my skin really started to break out more and get worse. So I truly believe the Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash is doing good for my skin.

Only very recently I noticed something missing out of my skincare routine that I hadn’t used in ages. This got me thinking, maybe that’s part of the reason my skin isn’t so great at the moment. Lush’s Mask of Magnaminty Face Mask has been a lifesaver for my skin recently.  I never used to leave my cupboard without one, but with university making me stretch every single penny I had, I never had any spare cash to treat my skin to this wonderful face mask. As soon as I could, I restocked my cupboards and have seen an instant difference.

The packaging even states…”This peppermint mask does everything it can to fight eruptions and outbreaks and return your skin to tip top condition“…aka, the miracle product I needed. I use it two or three times a week, depending on my skins condition and whether I have time. I like to apply a generous layer with my fingers, leave it on for 15-20 minutes, then gently remove the mask with a clean flannel. It’s a face mask that tingles a little when it starts to dry on your skin but that personally doesn’t bother me and afterwards it leaves your skin feeling so smooth. I just love this product so much and I’ve definitely learnt my lesson of always having some of this in my bathroom cupboard.

The final product that’s really helped improve my skin over the past four(ish) months is the Nivea 2 in 1 Cleanser & Toner. I’ve never really been into toners because they always made my skin sting and I never saw the point. However, I picked this product up on a whim when completing a 3 for 2 offer on Nivea products and it’s now an essential in my skincare routine.

Applying a grape size amount on a cotton pad and use circle movements to distribute the product around your face and down your neck. I use this product after removing my makeup, it is only a night time ritual for me,  washing my face. Even after removing my makeup and cleaning my skin, there was still makeup in my pores, so this toner & cleanser just ensures my skin gets a deeper clean. It’s also super moisturising so I find I don’t need to apply a night cream after using it.

Now onto the products that just make my skin feel good. I’m guilty of not applying body butter as often as I should and I know my skin punishes me. My legs especially are very dry and itchy. However, during the summer, I always bring the Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Body Buttercream out of the cupboard as it just smells like summer in the tub. It basically just smells like lemon sherbet and I’m a sucker for citrus scents.

I apply this after very shower to moisturise my skin. Super simple but a step I feel most people either skip or forget about. I know for sure sometimes I’m just too lazy. But you need to keep the rest of your skin hydrated as well.

My body butter choices change depending on the season or what I’m feeling but at the moment I’m loving the Sugar Crush Body Buttercream from Soap and Glory.

The final product I’m mentioning today is the Nivea Lip Butter. Ever since using this lip product on a daily basis, every morning and evening, my lips rarely get chapped, when before they were always so dry. Making sure my lips are always moisturized is also a key step in my daily routine.

Without these products my skin would be suffering a lot more but I truly feel like Lush’s Mask of Magnaminty is incredible and allows you to see instant results (I may go do one now).

What are your skincare essentials? Let’s chat in the comments.

Drugstore Haul | Sitting In The Clouds

Welcome Back!!! I know it’s a common fact that all students are poor and to be fair I’m quite wise when it comes to money. However, the government unfortunately doesn’t fund courses taught at the uni I attend so with full time uni and only a part time job, I’m very tight on money and will be for the next three years. But when your favourite makeup items are rolling low, you just have to restock, there’s no questions about it.

I was in desperate need of new concealer, new foundation, new shampoo and conditioner…basically every single one of my favourites, so I jumped straight into the Superdrug website and ordered everything I needed. I did have a  little browse while I was there and was so tempted to add some liquid lipsticks into my basket from Barry M and Makeup Revolution but I just couldn’t justify afford it…*cry face*.

I love Superdrug for makeup and I feel they do such an amazing range of makeup brands and because I’m a Superdrug member I get free delivery without having a minimum spend…win win!

drugstore haul pic text.jpg

Maybelline is one of my favourite drugstore brands, they do my favourite concealer, the Fit Me concealer, as well as my ALL TIME favourite mascara, the Lash Sensational LUSCIOUS, not the original one, although that one is good as well, I just personally prefer the effect on my eyelashes after using the Luscious with Oil Blend formula.

My all time favourite foundation, L’Oreal’s Infallible Matte foundation was out of stock…boo hoo!!! And I couldn’t wait for it be be restocked as I really needed a foundation and since Maybelline had a 3 for 2 offer running, I thought I’d try the Maybelline Fit Me foundation.

I’m hoping I really like this as I’ve heard some really good things about and since it’s in the same line as my favourite concealer, I’m hoping there won’t be too many differences to make me dislike it and love it just as much as the concealer.

I’ll let you know I get on, I’m even thinking about doing a first impression for this foundation.

I’ve been having real issue with my skin lately which I’m really irritated about as my skin has never been this bad before. Therefore, I repurchased a trusty product, the Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash. This product is a really gentle daily exfoliating wash, it really reduces my oil and makes my makeup last longer without primer as well as making my skin feel clean and fresh.

The last couple of products won’t be any surprise to you. I just had to repurchase my favourite hair duo, the Garnier Ulimate Blends shampoo and conditioner.

hair text.jpg

For the time being this hair duo is perfect for me. It smells incredible, it’s really affordable and it actually benefits my hair. I have a full length review about this amazing duo on my blog if you want to hear more. They also feature in about 4 of my empties posts, I just can’t get enough of the stuff.

I also decided to pick up another Batiste Dry Shampoo as although it’s not a necessity, it’s always nice to have a product like this for a day that you may need some extra volume or you skipped a “wash hair day” by accident. I just like having one around the house incase I’m in need.

I personally prefer the “divine dark” edition as with my super dark hair, I always find that the white powder is really hard to massage in completely and it’s just safer with brown powder incase I have missed a spot, it won’t look like I have severe dandruff.

So although you’ve probably seen all these products countless times on my blog before because all I did was repurchase my favourites, I hope you enjoyed the post nevertheless. But for a while now, I won’t be able to try many new products alongside my favourites as I just don’t have the money….MAJOR downside to uni/student life…ahah!

Thanks for reading and supporting my blog. I am so close to 700 WordPress followers which is super exciting, each and every one of you mean so much to me. I love chatting to you guys in the comments, so let me know if you’ve tried any of the products I’ve mentioned and if you love or hate them.

until next time,

5 Empty Pots = 1 Free Face Mask | LUSH Empties | Sitting In The Clouds

Welcome Back!!! Yesterday I used up the last of my Love Lettuce face mask from LUSH which totalled to five empty pots I can now exchange for a free face mask. This is a great enticement for people to bring back empty containers which will then be recycled. I’ve done this giving back, recycling scheme a couple of times now and I love it. It’s especially great at the moment now I’m a student with very little money because when is a free product not a good idea?

Also, if this you like this post, let me know as I’m thinking of it becoming a series. Every time I empty five pots, doing a post, reviewing them, letting you guys know which ones I liked and disliked and what face mask I am thinking of picking up as my next free one.

My sister and I combine our empty pots so we get a free face mask quicker and usually decide and share which free one we get. However, she is currently traveling (Hey Frances, if you’re reading this on a beach somewhere), so although she’s put two pots out of the five I have, I’ll probably have the entire free face mask for myself (sorry Frances).

The first empty pot is Bouncy Bunny, which is my sisters so I can’t really say much about it except I think it’s an exclusive to the Easter range, which is coming out, or is already out in stores? I’m not too sure but I know that Easter isn’t far away as Creme Eggs, Mini Eggs and walls of Easter Eggs are already lined our stores. But I don’t actually think this empty pot will count as it doesn’t have the specific logo on it, so let me know if I’ll still be able to exchange this one for a free face mask?

This is another one of my sister’s tubs but I know she raves and loves this product and I’m pretty sure she isn’t the only one who loves this product. I think it’s loved by a lot of Lush lovers. I personally however, hate the smell of this product so I would never pick it up to use.

Now onto the three pots that I’ve finished up. I swear by Mask of Magnaminty and have repurchased this face mask multiple times. I still love it and do truly believe it helps out my skin in times of need, however I think I’ve discovered a new favourite….

LOVE LETTUCE!! This is actually a free face mask I decided to try after finishing my previous five pots and I love it! It’s a really creamy, smooth consistently which helps application to be really gentle on your skin. Usually I don’t like their “keep in the fridge” face masks because I end up forgetting about them and not using them by their use by date but I love the fact Love Lettuce is a fridge face mask. It makes me skin feel that much more refreshed because the mask is cool when applying it. I’m actually really surprised I love this face mask so much because I’m not a huge fan of the Lavender scent but this face mask has a subtle scent of Lavender that just enhances how refreshing this face mask is. I love it!

I will now be keeping a Love Lettuce in my fridge and a Mask of Magnaminty in my bathroom cupboard because I love both and they both help my skin in different ways. Mask of Magnaminty helps keep my skin clean from spots and helps get rid of them, whereas Love Lettuce just freshens my skin up and helps it feel more hydrated and smooth.

The final empty pot is the Don’t Look At Me face mask. This face mask is meant to really moisturise your skin and although it did that, I think other LUSH face masks do this as well as have other benefits as I feel all Lush face masks moisturise your skin to some extent. And as this is a fridge face mask and I wasn’t a huge fan of it anyway, I completely forgot to use it all. Overall, this is my least favourite LUSH face mask I have tried.

If the Bouncy Bunny pot from my sister does equal my fifth empty tub and I am allowed a free face mask I really want to try LUSH’s Cupcake face mask after Mostly Megan on Youtube raved about it not too long ago.

I’m really hoping Bouncy Bunny does contribute to my five as I really like having at least one LUSH face mask in my collection if I ever feel my skin needs a lift and at the minute I have zero. Help!

Have you used any of these LUSH products I have mentioned? What are your thoughts? Let’s chat in the comments. Also let me know how you liked this type of blog post and if you would like to see more of them in the future.

until next time,

xoxo, rachel

LUSH Review & Demo | Dragon’s Egg Bath Bomb | Sitting In The Clouds

Welcome Back!!! I haven’t had a relaxing bath in a while so over the weekend I thought I’d treat myself and use up my last remaining bath bomb. However, my LUSH collection is looking very bare now with only a backup of my go-to shower gel, Dirty Springwash and the Comforter bubble bar, but did my final LUSH bath bomb let me down or did it live up to all the LUSH hype?

I personally prefer LUSH’s bubble bars as I prefer a bath with bubbles to one without so therefore every time I use a bath bomb I always place in some sort of bubble bath mixture as well. This time I went with Zoella’s Bath Latte Bath and Shower Milk that produces some luscious smelling bubbles, however I personally feel it doesn’t produce enough but that’s down to personal preference. Of course you can add as much Bath Latte into your water as you wish but for £6.00, I try and save the product and use it sparingly, otherwise its get’s used up too quickly for my likely. Anyway enough about Zoella beauty and let’s focus our attention back on the Dragon’s Egg bath bomb from LUSH.

I’m a sucker for anything citrus scented so when I smelt this bath bomb in store I knew it was coming home with me. It was the first time I had ever used Dragon Egg and if it wasn’t for the scent I wouldn’t have picked it up because it really doesn’t look that interesting and to be honest the performance when placed into the bath wasn’t the best I’ve seen after using some other LUSH bath bombs like Intergalactic and the Yoga bath bomb.

It took quite a while to fully dissolve and because of this I didn’t actually photograph the end result of the bath bomb. But it turned the water a gorgeous deep orange colour which I really enjoyed and the scent lingered for a while after the bath bomb had finished exploding so it was definitely a great bath bomb to scent wise, I just wasn’t too impressed with the performance.

With lemon and bergamot oil to cleanse and uplift the user and jasmine to add a hint of floral to the mix, this bath bomb doesn’t have many skin benefits either but I can’t get over how incredible it smells and purely for this reason, I will be picking this bath bomb up again. But overall, it’s not my all time favourite LUSH bath bomb and if it wasn’t for the scent, I really don’t think this particular bath bomb is anything special.

A short and sweet, or shall I saw citrusy blog post today. Have you used LUSH’s Dragon Egg bath bomb? What did you think of it in action? Let’s chat in the comments below.

Thanks for reading and supporting my blog and until next time,

xoxo, rachel

Never Mind The Ballistics | Review & Demo

Empties #7 | January 2017 | Sitting In The Clouds

Welcome Back!!! I think this may just be my biggest empties post since I started doing them back in the summer of last year. I don’t know how I managed to finish so many products this month but it wasn’t at a great time because they are all my favourites and at the moment I just don’t have the cash to be replenishing my stock this often.

  • Simple Kind To Skin Protecting Light Moisturiser – I think I’ve been using this moisturiser, day and night, for about 2-3 years now. It keeps my skin hydrated but it’s not at all heavy and sinks into my skin so quickly. It also has SPF 15 so it’s great all year round. The only down side to this product that if you get it in your eyes, it stings like a motherf***er but I let that slide because I love everything else about this product so much.

Repurchase? Always. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve re-brought this product.

  • Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash – Just before Christmas I was using this wonderful product but I had been consistent using it for a while so I decided to switch it up so I brought the Neutrogena Grapefruit range, which was the worst mistake I have done in a while, I’ll explain later, so I jumped straight back to this beautiful product.

Repurchase? I’ve learnt from my mistake and I’m sticking to what my skin likes and at the moment it’s this product, so yes, I’ll definitely be picking this one up again. I actually brought two at the same time so I knew I had a back up, so I’m currently going through my 5th or 6th tube of this miracle product.

  • Maybelline Brow Drama – There is a lot of mixed reviews on this product but I personally love it. I think the reason some people don’t get along with this product is because of the brush style and thickness, but I think it’s amazing but it may be because I have thick eyebrows. But anyhow, I love this product, it keeps my eyebrow hairs in place all day while keeping them looking natural.

Repurchase? Yes. I think this is my third tube I’ve gone through. A common theme in this post but typically once I’ve found a product I love and works for me, I tend to stick with it for a while.

  • Maybelline Fit Me Concealer – Another one of my holy grail products so I can’t rave enough about this product. It’s just amazing, blends well, so creamy, matches my skin tone perfectly and just stays all day.

Repurchase? YES YES YES!!

  • Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara – This blog post may have well been called “my holy grail products” because that’s what every product I’ve mentioned today has been. But saying that, this is my all time favourite makeup product. It just makes my lashes look amazing. However, I have recently discovered that a fresh tube, although the formula is a little wet, works so much better than after a few weeks/months and it’s dried out. That may just be personal preference but when I opened my new tube recently, the effects were so much better.

Repurchase? No thinking required, of course.

Now onto the two products that made my skin hell before my holy grail, Simple Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash came to the rescue.

  • Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Facial Wash and Daily Scrub – I used the facial wash when I was in high school and remembered loving it so I decided to pick it up again but that turned out to be a mistake. Neither I didn’t realise the previous time how bad it made my skin or they have changed the formula or my skin just doesn’t like it anymore, but whatever this reason, when I used these products this time round my skin broke out so bad. I had about 15 spots, mainly on my forehead and chin. Like every human being I’m used to a few spots here and there but my skin has never been that bad before. But as soon as I stopped using them my skin started to clear up immediately, with the help of my trusty Simple face wash. I don’t know if it was just one of the products or both but I’m not willing to test them out separately to find out which one was giving me the issues. As you can see I didn’t even finish them but I wanted to include them in this months empties to let you guys know the problems I had with these products.

Repurchase? Absolutely not and they have already reached my bin.

I think each product I mentioned today, excluding the last two, has been in a previous empties post which just shows how much I love each product otherwise I wouldn’t keep on repurchasing them. Have you had any issues with any of the products I’ve mentioned or do we share the same loves? Let’s chat in the comments.

until next time,

xoxo, rachel

Empties #6 | December | Sitting In The Clouds

Welcome Back!!! I was really worried I was going to break my streak of doing empties post this month as for nearly the entire month I had only finished one product but this past week I used up some of my favourite products so once again, for the sixth time, I’m back with another empties post.

  • Garnier Ultimate Blends Shampoo and Conditioner: My new favourite haircare duo. This is the second lot of bottles I’ve up and I’m currently working through my third set, I just can’t get enough of these. They make my hair so soft and shiny and they smell amazing. (Full review here)

Repurchase? 100%! They do wonders of my hair and they seem to always be on sale as well so I only pay £1.50 per bottle which always make me want to pick them up compared to trying other brands.

  • Tea Tree Deep Cleansing Nose Strips: I haven’t been using nose strips for too long and I don’t use them often but when I do use them I love the results. A while back I decided to try Superdrugs own and for the price I’m really pleased on how they worked. They get the majority of all the dirt clogged in my pores, they miss a few but I’m not too bothered for the price I paid. They are quick and simple and no hassle to use.

Repurchase? Most likely. Nose strips are never really a priority on my shopping list compared to other beauty items but if one day I feel the need to pick some more up and I’m shopping in Superdrug, I will defiantly gravitate towards these as I know they work well.

  • L’Oreal Infallible Matte Foundation: My new holy grail foundation. Before this one emptied completely I made sure I picked up a back up. This is the first tube I’ve finished and I don’t see my favourite foundation switching any time soon. This one is just amazing. (Full review here)

Repurchase? YES!!!!

So that’s another blog post done and dusted. I love writing empties post because they are like a bunch of mini product reviews in one post. Have you tried any of the products I mentioned today?

Thanks for reading and supporting my blog and…

until next time,

xoxo, rachel

P.S. If you’ve been wondering why I’ve been posting so often this week and not sticking to my usual blogging schedule (Monday, Friday and Sunday) it’s because 1) I’m still off uni and it’s my last full week off so I thought I’d concentrate on my blog before uni takes over my life again and 2) it’s Toms birthday weekend starting tonight and I’m treating him to a whole weekend in London, which you’ll hear all about next week so there will be no blog posts up this weekend so I thought I’d treat you guys to more posts to compensate for the lack of blog posts over the weekend.

What I Got For Christmas

I Needed It All | Drugstore Haul | Sitting In The Clouds

Welcome Back!!! The beginning of November hasn’t been great for me purely because each day it seemed like another one of my favourite, go-to products ran out on me. Therefore the only solution was to pop into my local Superdrug to replenish my stock. What I didn’t realise was the amount of things that I actually needed to buy and my purse wasn’t happy about it to say the least, but I justified it with the fact that I needed it all…hence the title of this blog post.

  • Maybellines Lash Sensational Luscious Mascara – my holy grail mascara and I can’t live without it. I prefer the luscious one to the original…full thoughts in review here
  • Rimmels Stay Matte Powder – I’ve used this in the past but not for a while and seeing as this was half the price of my go-to Bourjois Healthy Balance powder, I decided to pick the Stay Matte up again to see if I still love it as much as I did.
  • Maybellines Fit Me Concealer (15) – I adore this concealer, this is the third time of repurchasing. I rave about it more in my October Favourites.
  • Maybelline Brow Drama – This is the third tube of Brow Drama I have purchased and its now one of my go-to products. It sets my brows in place all day, adding colour and structure without my eyebrows looking fake. And for the price, it’s a win win!

  • Garnier Ultimate Blends Shampoo and Conditioner – I’m literally in love with these products and this line in general. They do amazing things to my hair and they are so affordable. [review here]
  • Garnier Ultimate Blends Oil – Out of this whole haul, this is the only product I haven’t tried before, but it was on sale at over half price (original price £9.99) and knowing how much I love the shampoo and conditioner, I just had to try this hair oil out.
  • Batiste Dry Shampoo – I ran out of the Herbal Essences dry shampoo in October [October Empties] and just knew when repurchasing a dry shampoo I had to go back to my holy grail Batiste Divine Dark.

I think skincare is the worst thing to run out of as I hate not knowing my face has has a full clean at the beginning and end of the day.

  • Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Facial Wash – I’ve used this face wash before but a couple of years back but I remember really liking it and loving the scent so I decided to pick it up and try it again.
  • Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Daily Scrub – I also decided to pick up the face scrub in the same line to see how it performs against the face wash. I plan to use the face wash in the morning, as a gentle cleanse and then the face scrub in the evening to allow my skin a deeper clean after wearing makeup all day. I’ll let you guys know how I think of them and maybe even do my first ever skincare routine.

I went into Superdrug telling myself only to pick up what I really needed and I’m glad I stuck to to guns because I needed quiet a lot of stuff in the end and I spent way too much. However, I’m super happy with everything I got though and so glad to have some of my essentials back in my makeup bag.

Have you tried any of these products? What are your thoughts? Are any of them your holy grails?

until next time,

xoxo, rachel
