Top 5 Skincare Products | Sitting In The Clouds

All my life I’ve been very lucky with my skin, no teenage acne, only a few spots here and there from eating too much junk, not drinking enough water, you know…the usual. But for the majority of this year my skin has taken a turn. It’s still not severe but for me but I’m struggling to maintain how it used to be. However without a few holy grail products, I would seriously be lost. And of course some of these products just help me feel pampered.

IMG_5110

I use the Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash each morning and evening as my daily face wash. I’m only, at 20, getting around to understanding my skin and what it needs. I’m now pretty sure that my skin is more on the normal/oily side of the spectrum, which means the oil balancing side of this face wash really works well with my skin. The exfoliating beads are super gentle so I can use it twice a day without getting irritation. The scent is barely there, so if your skin is sensitive to perfume or fragrant products, I would suggest giving this one a go.

I actually had a break, a few months back, from this face wash to try a new one…this was a bad mistake on my behalf. It was when I switched things up, my skin really started to break out more and get worse. So I truly believe the Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash is doing good for my skin.

IMG_5112.jpg

Only very recently I noticed something missing out of my skincare routine that I hadn’t used in ages. This got me thinking, maybe that’s part of the reason my skin isn’t so great at the moment. Lush’s Mask of Magnaminty Face Mask has been a lifesaver for my skin recently.  I never used to leave my cupboard without one, but with university making me stretch every single penny I had, I never had any spare cash to treat my skin to this wonderful face mask. As soon as I could, I restocked my cupboards and have seen an instant difference.

The packaging even states…”This peppermint mask does everything it can to fight eruptions and outbreaks and return your skin to tip top condition“…aka, the miracle product I needed. I use it two or three times a week, depending on my skins condition and whether I have time. I like to apply a generous layer with my fingers, leave it on for 15-20 minutes, then gently remove the mask with a clean flannel. It’s a face mask that tingles a little when it starts to dry on your skin but that personally doesn’t bother me and afterwards it leaves your skin feeling so smooth. I just love this product so much and I’ve definitely learnt my lesson of always having some of this in my bathroom cupboard.

IMG_5107

The final product that’s really helped improve my skin over the past four(ish) months is the Nivea 2 in 1 Cleanser & Toner. I’ve never really been into toners because they always made my skin sting and I never saw the point. However, I picked this product up on a whim when completing a 3 for 2 offer on Nivea products and it’s now an essential in my skincare routine.

Applying a grape size amount on a cotton pad and use circle movements to distribute the product around your face and down your neck. I use this product after removing my makeup, it is only a night time ritual for me,  washing my face. Even after removing my makeup and cleaning my skin, there was still makeup in my pores, so this toner & cleanser just ensures my skin gets a deeper clean. It’s also super moisturising so I find I don’t need to apply a night cream after using it.

 IMG_5106.jpg

Now onto the products that just make my skin feel good. I’m guilty of not applying body butter as often as I should and I know my skin punishes me. My legs especially are very dry and itchy. However, during the summer, I always bring the Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Body Buttercream out of the cupboard as it just smells like summer in the tub. It basically just smells like lemon sherbet and I’m a sucker for citrus scents.

I apply this after very shower to moisturise my skin. Super simple but a step I feel most people either skip or forget about. I know for sure sometimes I’m just too lazy. But you need to keep the rest of your skin hydrated as well.

My body butter choices change depending on the season or what I’m feeling but at the moment I’m loving the Sugar Crush Body Buttercream from Soap and Glory.

IMG_5109.jpg

The final product I’m mentioning today is the Nivea Lip Butter. Ever since using this lip product on a daily basis, every morning and evening, my lips rarely get chapped, when before they were always so dry. Making sure my lips are always moisturized is also a key step in my daily routine.

Without these products my skin would be suffering a lot more but I truly feel like Lush’s Mask of Magnaminty is incredible and allows you to see instant results (I may go do one now).

What are your skincare essentials? Let’s chat in the comments.

L’Oreal V Maybelline | Foundation Wars | Sitting In The Clouds

When there are so many different products on the market which are so similar it’s hard to know exactly which one will suit you best and which one you’ll fall head over heels in love with. There are so many factors to consider and without having tried and tested each one in turn, it’s sometimes impossible to make the right choice. But don’t fret, today I’ll be comparing two of the most spoken about drugstore foundations that are currently on the market, the L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Matte and the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation. Both offer similar things but at the end of the day which one comes out on top?

IMG_4575

The L’Oreal Infallible Matte foundation has been my go to for about a year now. I love L’Oreal foundations, I used to use their highly acclaimed True Match, as they have a wide range of shades allowing anyone to get their exact shade…or near enough, which is something other high-street brands are still struggling to get right. However when my shade, Natural Rose, wasn’t in stock and I couldn’t pick up a new one, I decided to try a similar one that I had my eyes on, the Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation.

The other day I put them both to the test, applying each foundation to half my face to see how they faired through-out the day. I started this experiment at 10:30am, which was when I had applied my makeup. It was a weekend so I was only doing mundane household tasks, uni work, a few chores, blogging and chilling with family.

Both foundations are from the drugstore so both wouldn’t break the bank and leave your purse empty. I’ll start off by saying, both foundations are good for the price you pay. The Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless retails at £5.99 while the L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Matte prices at £7.99.

IMG_1346(LEFT: Maybelline Foundation | RIGHT: L’Oreal Foundation)

The first difference I noticed whilst I was applying both (I applied both foundations with a damp beauty sponge) was the consistency of the foundations. The Maybelline Fit Me foundation was a lot runnier while the L’Oreal one had a thicker consistency.  The consistency of the products could reflect on the coverage as the Maybelline foundation, I personally found, was more between light to medium than a medium to high coverage the L’Oreal one provided.

IMG_4579

IMG_4582

However, both foundations stayed true to their name about being matte. As soon as I applied both foundations they were instantly matte, no powder needed, although I did apply my trusty Rimmel Stay Matte powder to my entire face anyway.

IMG_1347.JPG(with concealer and powder)

After I had applied a full face of makeup and started to get on with my daily tasks I started to notice that I could feel the Maybelline Fit Me foundation sitting on my skin, which I had’t yet noticed with the L’Oreal Infallible foundation. Because of this I decided to see if there was any transfer with either one of the products. Unfortunately because of how much heavier the Maybelline foundation felt on my face there was quiet bad makeup transfer with the Maybelline Fit Me. This is one factor I have continued to notice with the Fit Me foundation, hugging my boyfriend now I’m conscious of my makeup going on his clothes. So even though the Maybelline one reduces and hides my pores and gives my face a really smooth base for the rest of my makeup to sit it feels a lot heavier on my skin. I did find though because of this, all other makeup applied and blended out a lot better thanks to the matte and poreless base the Maybelline foundation gave.

The L’Oreal Infallible Matte on the other hand is super lightweight, I never felt it as a second layer of skin and there was barely any/no transfer onto clothes when wearing this foundation.

IMG_1350

Through-out the day I started to notice a difference in how each foundation was wearing on my skin. The Maybelline Fit Me foundation says it’s for normal to oily skin, on that spectrum I class myself as having normal skin, yet this foundation was getting shiny around my T-Zone area after a couple of hours of wear. For this reason, I don’t believe the formula is suited for oily skin. To keep this foundation matte you would have to touch up with powder every couple of hours.

At the end of the day when it came to removing my makeup, the L’Oreal foundation was still intact, it was still 100% matte, no shine and no touch ups needed through-out the day which unfortunately I can’t say the same with Maybelline.

To be honest, I can’t fault the L’Oreal foundation. I wore it in Florida heat last summer when I went to Disney and I was walking around the parks all day, sweating, not once did I feel it on my face or it sliding off. It was definitely lightweight and when I got back to the hotel after a sometimes 9 hour day my face still wasn’t shiny. The packaging says 24H Matte, now it may not be 24 HOURS but it’s definitely matte for the entirety of the time you’re wearing it, 9 hours plus.

IMG_4577

So let’s recap….

Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Powerless Foundation:
– £5.99 (£2 cheaper)
– less coverage
– matte without powder to begin with but needs powder top ups through-out the day to stay matte
– feels heavy on the skin causing a lot of makeup transfer
– pore are less visible allowing for smoother makeup application and nicer blending of other powder products

L’Oreal Infallible Matte Foundation:
– £7.99
– higher coverage
– really lightweight, doesn’t feel like a second layer of skin at all, meaning barely any to no makeup transfer
– lasts all day without any touch ups

IMG_4578

Overall, for me the L’Oreal Infallible Matte wins this time around. For me it’s a better match for what I’m looking for in a foundation.  I love how matte it is and how it stays matte for a really long period of time. I don’t need to worry about being shiny through-out the day and carrying powder with me so I can touch up. So although it’s £2 more expensive and that £2 could get me a much needed hot chocolate, I would still choose the L’Oreal Infallible over the Maybelline Fit Me. I am a little upset about not liking the Maybelline Fit Me foundation though as the Maybelline Fit Me concealer I LOVE and adore and it’s a holy grail product of mine.

Having said all that, I’m glad to have tried this comparison, thank you Julie for suggesting for me to do this and I hope it helped you out, as I’m glad I have been able to try a similar product on the market but I’m sorry I just can’t fault the L’Oreal foundation formula.

However these are just my own opinions and everyone and their skin is different so I would love to know your thoughts on either or both of these foundations.

until next time,

xoxo, rachel

First Impressions: Morphe 35T Palette | Sitting In The Clouds

TWITTER | INSTAGRAM

Welcome Back!!! Wednesday evening I got home from uni to a very exciting package. I had ordered the Morphe 35T eyeshadow palette a couple days prior as a treat for myself after doing some freelance work and the company loving the outcome. You have to treat yourself every now and again and this seemed like the perfect time to get something that I had been eyeing up for a while.

IMG_3020.jpg

(Please bare in mind that pictures sometimes don’t show the true colours. I have done the best I can and think the pictures are a good representative of the palette but others may disagree. I personally feel the Morphe website picture for this palette doesn’t show the true beauty of this product.)

Firstly, I’ll start by saying this is the first ever product I’ve brought from Morphe so I had high hopes and was super excited to try out this palette. The 35T is a very neutral palette, lots of browns, deep purples and pinks aka perfect for me as I always tend to veer towards brown tones when creating eye looks. For 35 different shades, a mixture of mattes, shimmers and even some glitters, the palette cost me £21.00, which I think is a bargain.

IMG_3018.jpg

As I mentioned above, I received this palette on Wednesday evening so I’ve only had 3 days of testing this product out but so far I’m loving it.

What I Love:

  • Range of shades: With a wide range of mattes and shimmers this palette enables you to create so many different looks.
  • Pigmentation: Overall, the pigmentation is great. There are a few shades that don’t have as high of pigmentation as some others, but overall for the price, it’s great. I personally feel, that the shimmer shades have more pigmentation which is awesome as I find with some cheaper palettes, the shimmer pigmentation lets the palette down.
  • Price: Amazing price for the amount of shades and quality of them.
  • Packaging: Matte black, sleek and stylish

The 1 Thing I Dislike (I say dislike, as I don’t hate the palette because of it)

  • No mirror: I know this sounds crazy but the lid is huge and I think the palette would really benefit from having a gigantic mirror in the top of the lid.

Here are some swatches for you to get the idea of how pigmented this palette is. Unfortunately, these eyeshadows don’t have names so I just swatched random colours from the palette.

IMG_3024.jpg

img_3030

Overall, so far I’m loving this palette and think the colours are great for the autumn and winter seasons. There are some shades within this palette that I think will make some really nice wintery looks that I’m excited to try out. I would definitely recommend the Morphe brand and if you’ve been eyeing up some of the products for a while, defiantly get your hands of them or even add them to your Christmas wish list.

If you would like to see a look created with this palette, let me know in the comments and I’ll be sure to create one and get it up on my blog for you guys.

Review : Makeup Revolution Ultra Sculpt & Contour Kit | Sitting In The Clouds

TWITTER | INSTAGRAM

Welcome Back!!! I think finding a palette that caters for different purposes, in this case, blush, contour and highlight, and liking all three of those shades the same amount is hard to come by. Usually, you’ll love one shade and purely use the palette just for that one shade. Maybe you adore the blush colour but the contour shade isn’t right for your skin tone and the highlighter is just too shimmery for you. Sometimes that’s the case and us beauty lovers have to deal with that but when I came across a palette from Makeup Revolution, one of the best budget makeup brands around, that did a 3 in 1 palette I was excited to give it a shot and see how it performed.

IMG_2757.jpg

I’ll start off my saying, everything I said in the introduction does not apply to this product. It may just be me but the fact that the contour shade in this palette is perfect for my skin tone and the blush and highlight shades compliment each other and my skin amazingly shows that sometimes price doesn’t reflect the product and sometimes the budget brands do just as good a job or even better than the high end products.

  • The Contour Shade: It’s a matte shade which I love as I’ve never been keen with shimmer so I love the fact that it’s matte. It may just be my skin tone [they do multiple different palettes with different shades to compliment a range of different skin tones] but this palette in particular seems to match my skin perfectly. It doesn’t create a harsh contour because it’s not a super dark shade but it’s buildable which is what I love most about it, making it the perfect contour for day and night.
  • The Blush Shade: I do love all the shades in this palette, but the blush does have to be my least favourite but I still love it. It’s a great deep pink colour, perfect for the transition between summer and autumn.
  • The Highlight Shade: Just gorgeous!!! I believe when it comes to highlight, the more shimmer the better. I love this highlight, especially when it catches the light and just gives the most gorgeous glow to your skin.
IMG_2771.jpg
Sculpt and Contour Kit C01 [Ultra Fair]
  • Quality: As the picture above shows, all three shades in this palette are super pigmented. Each shade is also so buttery which makes them super easily to apply onto the skin and blend out. A little goes a long way with these shades purely because of the pigmentation, especially the blush.
  • Price: £3.50!!!!! Yes you read that right. For only £3.50 you get such amazing quality product for a great price. I still can’t believe this palette is so affordable. With the whole palette only costing £3.50, that makes each single shade just over £1.00 each…bargain. £1.00 people!!!
  • Packaging: For a budget brand I find all their packaging very sleek and stylish. I love the black with gold lettering. However, I recently went to Disney, I’m sure a ton of you know, and unfortunately during travel, this and another one of my Makeup Revolution palettes outer packaging did crack…at least the actual product didn’t smash which I guess is what the outer packaging is for…to protect the actual product and in that case, the packaging did a superb job.

IMG_2767.jpg

Overall, I can’t recommend this palette enough. Each shade is beautiful with amazing pigmentation. 3 in 1 palettes where each shade is just as good as one another are hard to come by so I would definitely try and get your hands on it because to be honest you can’t go wrong with £3.50.

Makeup Revolution is such an incredible brand and I know I have only try a few things from them but I know when I pick something up from them, it will be worth it. I’m so happy I brought this product on a whim as it’s my go-to contour, highlight and blush combo at the moment and will be for a while.

See this palette in action in my ‘go-to autumn makeup look

Thank you so much for reading and supporting my blog. I know I haven’t been uploading as frequently as I used to but I have just started uni and it’s full on to say the least, I just wish my blog didn’t have to suffer but sometimes you have to put some things on the back burner to concentrate on the more important things and unfortunately uni takes priority over my blog.

Review: Garnier Ultimate Blends | Sitting In The Clouds

TWITTER | INSTAGRAM

Welcome Back!!! Do you struggle with dry, frizzy hair? Are you on a budget, looking for an affordable yet amazing product to help you out of your misery? If the answer is YES, then I’ve got the product for you….

(WOW! totally sounded like an advert voice over then, haha)

thumb_IMG_2476_1024.jpg

The Garnier Ultimate Blends Shampoo and Conditioner in the Sleek Restorer line promises super sleek smoothness and for frizzy hair to finally be under control. Do I agree?

YES!

I’ve been using the Garnier Ultimate Blends Shampoo and Conditioner combination since July, having a break when I went on holiday and they are just coming to the end of their lives. Since using both the shampoo and the conditioner together, I’ve noticed…

  • They do defiantly reduce your frizz. I’ve especially noticed my hair being less frizzy when I leave it to dry naturally. I could never before leave my hair to dry naturally because it would just be so frizzy and out of control once it had dried but not when I use these beauties. I also like putting my hair up into a pony without straightening it nowadays which I never used to like doing as my hair just looked too frizzy on bunched up together.
  • My hair is a lot easier to brush through now. Since using the shampoo and conditioner duo, I’ve noticed a sufficient decrease in hair tangles, especially after the shower with wet hair. My hair after a shower used to be a tangled mess but since using the Garnier Ultimate Blends conditioner, I’ve noticed how little tangles I have now.
  • Just as the packaging states, I defiantly do have super sleek smoothness. I find myself fiddling with my hair way more often than a 19 year old girl should, but it’s just super soft.
  • It smells incredible…coconut and chocolate, yes please. It’s quite a sweet scent, which I love. It reminds me of a tropical, beach scent which is just perfect for summer…although summer is now ending in the UK. Most shampoos and conditioners have amazing scents, yet they don’t actually last well once you’ve gotten out of the shower. This scent lingers around for hours, and on multiple occasions I’ve been complimented on my hair scent.

thumb_IMG_2478_1024.jpg

And why wouldn’t you want to use a product that’s won the BEST SHAMPOO award…

superdrug

Overall?

For £3.89that’s less than £10.00 for both, this shampoo and conditioner duo are amazing. You get 400ml in each bottle for less than £4.00. They don’t break the bank and they last you an excellent amount of time, even with my crazy thick hair and using more product each wash that most other humans.

I would highly highly recommend you check out these products. And I can’t quite believe I’m admitting this but I truly feel this combination of shampoo and conditioner have taken top spot against LUSH’s American Cream Conditioner. Just for what they achieve and the price you buy, you can’t beat it.

Would I Repurchase? 100% YES!!

Have you tried these products before? What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments.

Review : Tangle Teezer | Sitting In The Clouds

Follow Me on Bloglovin’

Welcome Back!!! Are you wondering what the hype is about the tangle teezer? Are you unsure if the price is worth paying? Is a tangle teezer really that different to a normal brush? And does it really ease though tangles? Well I’m here to tell you that the answer to all of the questions above is…YES!! Since my sister gifted me a Tangle Teezer for my birthday in June, I haven’t used another brush.

IMG_2320

IMG_2321

So why is the Tangle Teezer so great?

  • It really does make brushing your hair and getting rid of your tangles easier as it doesn’t tear your hair and hurt your head.
  • You can use it with wet as well as dry hair without it breaking and damaging your hair.
  • I personally find that when I use my Tangle Teezer with wet hair my hair dries nicer naturally and doesn’t leave it as frizzy.
  • I hate it when my hairbrushes get clogged up with all my hair. I don’t have this problem when using the Tangle Teezer as it doesn’t pull as much of my hair out and if hair does get stuck between the bristles, it’s super easy to remove them, leaving your tangle teezer always hair free.
  • the Tangle Teezer is so compact, it’s perfect for traveling.
  • they come in such gorgeous colours and colour combinations that any one you own will look cute on your dressing table.

So is it worth the price?

  • At just over £10.00 I defiantly think it’s worth the price. I don’t think you can go wrong with spending a tenner.

and finallyDoes it live up to the hype?

  • This is tricky to answer. This Tangle Teezer is amazing and it definitely does what the product is set out to do. It 100% helps you get rid your tangles with less damage to your hair and without it hurting. However, I do feel like it may have been hyped a little too much. At the end of the day it is just a brush that makes brushing your hair easier.

Overall, I love this brush and I would highly recommend you get your hands on one, especially if you are prone to knotty hair, this product could be a real life saver for you.  I use it on a daily basis with my wet and dry hair and have seen a difference to how many less tangles I have in my hair.

Do you use this brush? What are your thoughts as I’ve heard mixed things about this product.

until next time…

xoxo, rachel
