August Reading | 2017 | Sitting In The Clouds

This month I fell in love all over again with the “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” trilogy by Jenny Han. I knew I loved it but having never reread it, I always hestitated when saying it was one of my favourite series of all time. I decided to re-read the first two books so I could dive straight into the third and final book with everything fresh in my mind and OMG I utterly adore this series. I can now say with confidence that this series is one of my all time favourites.

What I Read

> The Kiss of Deception by Mary E Pearson – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I finally decided to pick this book up after it having collected dust on my bookshelf since Christmas 2014 and I throughly enjoyed it. I’m now trapped in another series but luckily this is only one is only a trilogy. I’m excited to move on with the series and see where it goes.
> Armada by Ernest Cline – ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75
I LOVED Ready Player One by Earnest Cline when I read it a few months ago so decided to try his other novel. Although not as good, I still enjoyed it. I just found Ready Player One to be near perfect so I kind of dissapointed that Armada wasn’t as strong as RPO.
> To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han (reread) – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What can I say? Lara Jean, the Song sisters, Peter. It’s a pefect combo and nothing is wrong with this novel. I utterly adore this series.
> P.S I Still Love You by Jenny Han (reread) – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
More and more gush about this series. AHHHHH!!! *heart eye emoji*
> Always and Forever Lara Jean by Jenny Han – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I just didn’t want this series to end. I cried my eyes out to the point of no return. This is the first EVER book I’ve full on cried at. I’ve welled up, maybe shed one tear but never full on crying. I can’t believe I won’t ever get to relive Lara Jean and Peters story for the first time. I can confidently now say it is one of my favourite series of all time. I was skeptical when Jenny Han announced a third book in the series but she wrapped up every character and the overall story perfectly. I couldn’t of asked for a better ending.

Monthly Reading Stats

monthly reading stats_august

5 books, 1,823 pages…not too shamby for me. Each month I aim to read four books, one book a week so I’ve succeeded my monthly target, and I’ve reread one of my favourite series so I call this month a success.

September, however, is my last full month I have to read before I start back at university for year 2 so fingers crossed for another great reading month. What did you read this month? Do we share a love of Lara Jean, Peter and the Song sisters? Let’s chat in the comments.

until next time,

April Wrap Up & May TBR | Sitting In The Clouds

Can someone explain to me how it’s May already? One month away from being half way through yet another year living in this world. However, being May also means it’s only a one month away from my birthday and apart from Christmas, my birthday is my favourite time of year.

April reading wise, however, really saw me experiment with my reading resources. I read my first ever library book (that I can remember) this month. I discovered the amazing world of Overdrive and signed up immediately. I’m really trying to step out of my comfort zone with reading, not with what genre I read but with books I haven’t heard of before. Books that haven’t been hyped on the internet and I know pretty much the entire synopsis before diving in. It’s been good. But my main reading goal for April, if you saw my March Wrap Up, was to reread one of my favourite series, The Arcana Chronicles by Kresley Cole.

April Wrap Up

  • Poison Princess by Kresley Cole (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
  • Endless Knight by Kresley Cole (⭐️⭐️⭐️.5)
  • Dead of Winter by Kresley Cole (⭐️⭐️⭐️.5)
  • Arcana Rising by Kresley Cole (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
  • …And A Happy New Year? by Holly Bourne (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
  • Faceless by Alyssa Sheinmel (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)

Although I loved being back in the Arcana Chronicle world and with the characters again, it wasn’t as good as I remember being it but I guess that’s the risk you take when rereading books, you may not love them as much as you used to, and I’m fine with that. Arcana Rising was a great addition to the series and I will continue with the next two books, when they are released, because I want some of my favourite characters…JACK!!! to have a good ending. I didn’t end up reading the novella, Day Zero as I was reading reviews, and apparently it doesn’t add anything to the story and is really just like a textbook with information about all the characters. I just wasn’t in the mood for it.

I LOVED the novella to the Spinster Girls trilogy by Holly Bourne though, …And A Happy New Year? It was only just under 200 pages and I read it within 24 hours. I loved being back with these girls, seeing how their futures were panning out and I was truly satisfied with leaving them there to live their lives.

  • History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera

I saw this on Overdrive and downloaded it before I could tell my brain not to. I’ve heard nothing but good things about this book. I’m about 70 pages (eBook format) into the story and I’m liking it so far but it hasn’t swept me off my feet just yet.

May TBR

I really don’t have anything in mind that I want to read this month. I think I will keep my eyes out for anything that peeks my interest on Overdrive. But since we are getting into summer, I think it will be mainly contemporaries for the next couple of months.

What did you read in April? What was your favourite read? Let’s chat in the comments.

March Wrap Up & April TBR | Sitting In The Clouds

As my reading goes, 2017 has been an amazing year for me so far. No books have been rated under 3 stars, my lowest being a 3.75 stars to My Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland and my reading pace, although not fast in the slightest, with uni and other things going on in my life right now, I’ve read a total 13 books so far and GoodReads says I’m one book ahead of schedule, which is awesome for me. With April quickly approaching I’m happy to say I’m pleased with my reading so far this year.

March was my best month for reading so far but it isn’t over yet, with four days left, I’m hoping to complete one final book, bringing my total up six books.

March Wrap Up

  • Caraval by Stephanie Garber (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) – second five star read of the year and easily the best book I read this month
  • The Pottermore Short Story Collection by JK Rowling
Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists (⭐️⭐️⭐️)
    Incomplete and Unreliable Guide (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
  • One Night In Italy by Lucy Diamond (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)

I enjoyed all the books I’ve read this month with Caraval taking the lead as my favourite. I just adored this book, having heard a mix of reviews before reading it myself and hearing it be compared to The Night Circus, I was skeptical as I hated that book, but oh my!! Caraval was leaps and bounds better…unpopular opinion I know. I loved how you didn’t know what was real or fake and the whole atmosphere was amazing. I loved all the characters and I just can’t fault it.

I loved reentering the wizarding world and they were all good stories to keep me occupied on my commute to uni everyday. Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies was by far my favourite as we got to know more about Lupin, my favourite character.

I also really enjoyed One Night In Italy, it had been unread on my bookshelf for around two and a half years. I had picked it up once before but soon gave up as I wasn’t feeling it but second time round I devoured it.

DNF’ed

I did unfortunately DNF one book in March, which is my first DNF of the year. I’m not afraid of putting books down if I’m not feeling them and they are pulling me into a slump, which Hold Back The Stars by Katie Khan was doing to me.

30839926

I just didn’t get this book. I’m going to keep hold of it a while longer as Goodreads actually rates it quite well but this time round, I couldn’t get into it. I do truly believe that sometimes it is you and not the book.

  • Poison Princess by Kresley Cole

April TBR

  • Endless Knight by Kresley Cole (Arcana Chronicles #2)
  • Dead of Winter by Kresley Cole (Arcana Chronicles #3)
  • Day Zero by Kresley Cole (Arcana Chronicles #3.5)
  • Arcana Rising by Kresley Cole (Arcana Chronicles #4)

If you couldn’t tell I want to conquer this series in April. As I’m currently reading Poison Princess, the first book, I want to just dive into each of the books one another another this month. I read the first three books back in 2015, Poison Princess, Endless Knight and Dead of Winter but I want to refresh my mind before reading the novella and book number four. I can remember loving this series and it being one of my favourites, it’s on my favourites shelf on GoodReads anyway, so I’m excited to see if I still feel the same as well as what happens next as Dead of Winter left on the biggest cliffhanger.

If I read those four books and knock that series off my TBR I’ll be happy.

How was March reading wise for you? Have you read any of the books I’ve mentioned today? Let’s chat in the comments.

I also have more of my thoughts on all of the books read this month on my GoodReads page, linked below.

February Wrap Up & March TBR | Sitting In The Clouds

TWITTER | INSTAGRAM

Welcome Back!!! One day left in February and I know I won’t finish the book I’m currently reading before March hits us so it’s time for my monthly wrap up. In February I managed to complete 3 books but one of them I was already in the midst of when February rolled around.

February Wrap Up

  • Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland (⭐️⭐️⭐️.75)
  • Cress by Marissa Meyer (#3 Lunar Chronicles) (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
  • Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5)

I really enjoyed all the books I finished this month but Cress and Anna stand out the most for me. I’m a lover of contemporaries so usually any romance I read I love but there was something about this book that just made me fall in love with it, like most people. I throughly enjoyed the third instalment of the Lunar Chronicles, Cress but I did find it a bit slow (SPOILER) when all the characters go spilt up from one another, hence the knock of the star. It’s definitely not my favourite book of the series so far, Cinder is still my favourite book and character but I’m still loving this series and can’t wait to read Winter. Which leads me onto my….

March TBR

  • Winter by Marissa Meyer
  • Caraval by Stephanie Garber
  • Hold Back the Stars by Katie Khan

I want to jump straight into Winter when I’ve finished my current read and I think the reason my enjoyment of Cress suffered was because I waited too long between Scarlet and Cress. And plus, Cress left on an awesome cliffhanger so I want to know what happens. However, Winter is one BIG book so I’m not sure I’ll get round to reading the other two but I want to try.

  • Wonder by RJ Palacio – I’m enjoying it but I’m really not that fussed on it as of yet. The subject of the story is really interesting, I’m just not attached to any of the characters and that’s a major thing for me when reading. I have to feel a connection to really enjoy the story.

Overall I’m pleased with what I read in February, the books weren’t bad ratings nor were they amazing 5 star reads for me. I’m a little disappointed that I only read 2 books cover to cover but life got in the way, especially with uni picking back up.

What did you read in February? Have you read any the books that are on my March TBR? Let’s chat in the comments.

January Wrap-Up & February TBR | 2017 | Sitting In The Clouds

TWITTER | INSTAGRAM

Welcome Back!!! The first month of 2017 is already over and I’m pleased to announced that with everything that went on in January I read a total of 3 books. Now that may not seem like a lot but when Crooked Kingdom is one of the reads and it was over 500 pages and it being taller than your average book as well as having ridiculously small font, I’m happy with 3. None of them received lower than 4 stars which is an awesome start to my reading year.

January Wrap Up:

  • Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them Screenplay by JK Rowling (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
  • Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5)
  • Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)

To be honest I can’t pick a favourite book I read this month, they were all awesome in their own ways. Of course Fantastic Beasts was epic. It was amazing to reenter the wizarding world and because I had already seen the film before reading the screenplay, as I was turning the pages the film was replaying in my head. Amazing, recommend to all Potterheads. I can also totally understand why there is so much hype around the Six of Crows duology, I loved it. The characters, the plot, the writing was just amazing but I defiantly preferred the first book. I found the second dragged in places and Six of Crows just had action and plot twists on every page.

February TBR:

I’m not really sure what I want to read in this upcoming month. February is only 28 days the year so I don’t want to make my TBR too ambitious. However I am off uni for the majority of it so I’m hoping to get quite a bit done, but I’m having trouble picking out any specific books so I’m going to let my mood decide.

Currently Reading:

  • Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland – I’m not very far into this book at all as I’m writing this but it’s intriguing me and I’m interested to see where the plot takes me.

I’m so happy with how my reading year is turning out so far. GoodReads is telling me I’m currently on track to finish 50 books by the end of the year which is good. How did the first month of 2017 go for you reading wise? Let’s chat in the comments. Did we read any of the same books? What are your thoughts?

until next time,

xoxo, rachel
