L’Oreal V Maybelline | Foundation Wars | Sitting In The Clouds

When there are so many different products on the market which are so similar it’s hard to know exactly which one will suit you best and which one you’ll fall head over heels in love with. There are so many factors to consider and without having tried and tested each one in turn, it’s sometimes impossible to make the right choice. But don’t fret, today I’ll be comparing two of the most spoken about drugstore foundations that are currently on the market, the L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Matte and the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation. Both offer similar things but at the end of the day which one comes out on top?

IMG_4575

The L’Oreal Infallible Matte foundation has been my go to for about a year now. I love L’Oreal foundations, I used to use their highly acclaimed True Match, as they have a wide range of shades allowing anyone to get their exact shade…or near enough, which is something other high-street brands are still struggling to get right. However when my shade, Natural Rose, wasn’t in stock and I couldn’t pick up a new one, I decided to try a similar one that I had my eyes on, the Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation.

The other day I put them both to the test, applying each foundation to half my face to see how they faired through-out the day. I started this experiment at 10:30am, which was when I had applied my makeup. It was a weekend so I was only doing mundane household tasks, uni work, a few chores, blogging and chilling with family.

Both foundations are from the drugstore so both wouldn’t break the bank and leave your purse empty. I’ll start off by saying, both foundations are good for the price you pay. The Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless retails at £5.99 while the L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Matte prices at £7.99.

IMG_1346(LEFT: Maybelline Foundation | RIGHT: L’Oreal Foundation)

The first difference I noticed whilst I was applying both (I applied both foundations with a damp beauty sponge) was the consistency of the foundations. The Maybelline Fit Me foundation was a lot runnier while the L’Oreal one had a thicker consistency.  The consistency of the products could reflect on the coverage as the Maybelline foundation, I personally found, was more between light to medium than a medium to high coverage the L’Oreal one provided.

IMG_4582

However, both foundations stayed true to their name about being matte. As soon as I applied both foundations they were instantly matte, no powder needed, although I did apply my trusty Rimmel Stay Matte powder to my entire face anyway.

IMG_1347.JPG(with concealer and powder)

After I had applied a full face of makeup and started to get on with my daily tasks I started to notice that I could feel the Maybelline Fit Me foundation sitting on my skin, which I had’t yet noticed with the L’Oreal Infallible foundation. Because of this I decided to see if there was any transfer with either one of the products. Unfortunately because of how much heavier the Maybelline foundation felt on my face there was quiet bad makeup transfer with the Maybelline Fit Me. This is one factor I have continued to notice with the Fit Me foundation, hugging my boyfriend now I’m conscious of my makeup going on his clothes. So even though the Maybelline one reduces and hides my pores and gives my face a really smooth base for the rest of my makeup to sit it feels a lot heavier on my skin. I did find though because of this, all other makeup applied and blended out a lot better thanks to the matte and poreless base the Maybelline foundation gave.

The L’Oreal Infallible Matte on the other hand is super lightweight, I never felt it as a second layer of skin and there was barely any/no transfer onto clothes when wearing this foundation.

IMG_1350

Through-out the day I started to notice a difference in how each foundation was wearing on my skin. The Maybelline Fit Me foundation says it’s for normal to oily skin, on that spectrum I class myself as having normal skin, yet this foundation was getting shiny around my T-Zone area after a couple of hours of wear. For this reason, I don’t believe the formula is suited for oily skin. To keep this foundation matte you would have to touch up with powder every couple of hours.

At the end of the day when it came to removing my makeup, the L’Oreal foundation was still intact, it was still 100% matte, no shine and no touch ups needed through-out the day which unfortunately I can’t say the same with Maybelline.

To be honest, I can’t fault the L’Oreal foundation. I wore it in Florida heat last summer when I went to Disney and I was walking around the parks all day, sweating, not once did I feel it on my face or it sliding off. It was definitely lightweight and when I got back to the hotel after a sometimes 9 hour day my face still wasn’t shiny. The packaging says 24H Matte, now it may not be 24 HOURS but it’s definitely matte for the entirety of the time you’re wearing it, 9 hours plus.

IMG_4577

So let’s recap….

Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Powerless Foundation:
– £5.99 (£2 cheaper)
– less coverage
– matte without powder to begin with but needs powder top ups through-out the day to stay matte
– feels heavy on the skin causing a lot of makeup transfer
– pore are less visible allowing for smoother makeup application and nicer blending of other powder products

L’Oreal Infallible Matte Foundation:
– £7.99
– higher coverage
– really lightweight, doesn’t feel like a second layer of skin at all, meaning barely any to no makeup transfer
– lasts all day without any touch ups

IMG_4578

Overall, for me the L’Oreal Infallible Matte wins this time around. For me it’s a better match for what I’m looking for in a foundation.  I love how matte it is and how it stays matte for a really long period of time. I don’t need to worry about being shiny through-out the day and carrying powder with me so I can touch up. So although it’s £2 more expensive and that £2 could get me a much needed hot chocolate, I would still choose the L’Oreal Infallible over the Maybelline Fit Me. I am a little upset about not liking the Maybelline Fit Me foundation though as the Maybelline Fit Me concealer I LOVE and adore and it’s a holy grail product of mine.

Having said all that, I’m glad to have tried this comparison, thank you Julie for suggesting for me to do this and I hope it helped you out, as I’m glad I have been able to try a similar product on the market but I’m sorry I just can’t fault the L’Oreal foundation formula.

However these are just my own opinions and everyone and their skin is different so I would love to know your thoughts on either or both of these foundations.

until next time,

xoxo, rachel

Drugstore Haul | Sitting In The Clouds

Welcome Back!!! I know it’s a common fact that all students are poor and to be fair I’m quite wise when it comes to money. However, the government unfortunately doesn’t fund courses taught at the uni I attend so with full time uni and only a part time job, I’m very tight on money and will be for the next three years. But when your favourite makeup items are rolling low, you just have to restock, there’s no questions about it.

I was in desperate need of new concealer, new foundation, new shampoo and conditioner…basically every single one of my favourites, so I jumped straight into the Superdrug website and ordered everything I needed. I did have a  little browse while I was there and was so tempted to add some liquid lipsticks into my basket from Barry M and Makeup Revolution but I just couldn’t justify afford it…*cry face*.

I love Superdrug for makeup and I feel they do such an amazing range of makeup brands and because I’m a Superdrug member I get free delivery without having a minimum spend…win win!

drugstore haul pic text.jpg

Maybelline is one of my favourite drugstore brands, they do my favourite concealer, the Fit Me concealer, as well as my ALL TIME favourite mascara, the Lash Sensational LUSCIOUS, not the original one, although that one is good as well, I just personally prefer the effect on my eyelashes after using the Luscious with Oil Blend formula.

My all time favourite foundation, L’Oreal’s Infallible Matte foundation was out of stock…boo hoo!!! And I couldn’t wait for it be be restocked as I really needed a foundation and since Maybelline had a 3 for 2 offer running, I thought I’d try the Maybelline Fit Me foundation.

I’m hoping I really like this as I’ve heard some really good things about and since it’s in the same line as my favourite concealer, I’m hoping there won’t be too many differences to make me dislike it and love it just as much as the concealer.

I’ll let you know I get on, I’m even thinking about doing a first impression for this foundation.

simple text.jpg

I’ve been having real issue with my skin lately which I’m really irritated about as my skin has never been this bad before. Therefore, I repurchased a trusty product, the Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash. This product is a really gentle daily exfoliating wash, it really reduces my oil and makes my makeup last longer without primer as well as making my skin feel clean and fresh.

The last couple of products won’t be any surprise to you. I just had to repurchase my favourite hair duo, the Garnier Ulimate Blends shampoo and conditioner.

hair text.jpg

For the time being this hair duo is perfect for me. It smells incredible, it’s really affordable and it actually benefits my hair. I have a full length review about this amazing duo on my blog if you want to hear more. They also feature in about 4 of my empties posts, I just can’t get enough of the stuff.

I also decided to pick up another Batiste Dry Shampoo as although it’s not a necessity, it’s always nice to have a product like this for a day that you may need some extra volume or you skipped a “wash hair day” by accident. I just like having one around the house incase I’m in need.

I personally prefer the “divine dark” edition as with my super dark hair, I always find that the white powder is really hard to massage in completely and it’s just safer with brown powder incase I have missed a spot, it won’t look like I have severe dandruff.

So although you’ve probably seen all these products countless times on my blog before because all I did was repurchase my favourites, I hope you enjoyed the post nevertheless. But for a while now, I won’t be able to try many new products alongside my favourites as I just don’t have the money….MAJOR downside to uni/student life…ahah!

Thanks for reading and supporting my blog. I am so close to 700 WordPress followers which is super exciting, each and every one of you mean so much to me. I love chatting to you guys in the comments, so let me know if you’ve tried any of the products I’ve mentioned and if you love or hate them.

until next time,

xoxo, rachel

Empties #7 | January 2017 | Sitting In The Clouds

TWITTER | INSTAGRAM

Welcome Back!!! I think this may just be my biggest empties post since I started doing them back in the summer of last year. I don’t know how I managed to finish so many products this month but it wasn’t at a great time because they are all my favourites and at the moment I just don’t have the cash to be replenishing my stock this often.

IMG_4114.JPG

  • Simple Kind To Skin Protecting Light Moisturiser – I think I’ve been using this moisturiser, day and night, for about 2-3 years now. It keeps my skin hydrated but it’s not at all heavy and sinks into my skin so quickly. It also has SPF 15 so it’s great all year round. The only down side to this product that if you get it in your eyes, it stings like a motherf***er but I let that slide because I love everything else about this product so much.

Repurchase? Always. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve re-brought this product.

  • Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash – Just before Christmas I was using this wonderful product but I had been consistent using it for a while so I decided to switch it up so I brought the Neutrogena Grapefruit range, which was the worst mistake I have done in a while, I’ll explain later, so I jumped straight back to this beautiful product.

Repurchase? I’ve learnt from my mistake and I’m sticking to what my skin likes and at the moment it’s this product, so yes, I’ll definitely be picking this one up again. I actually brought two at the same time so I knew I had a back up, so I’m currently going through my 5th or 6th tube of this miracle product.

  • Maybelline Brow Drama – There is a lot of mixed reviews on this product but I personally love it. I think the reason some people don’t get along with this product is because of the brush style and thickness, but I think it’s amazing but it may be because I have thick eyebrows. But anyhow, I love this product, it keeps my eyebrow hairs in place all day while keeping them looking natural.

Repurchase? Yes. I think this is my third tube I’ve gone through. A common theme in this post but typically once I’ve found a product I love and works for me, I tend to stick with it for a while.

  • Maybelline Fit Me Concealer – Another one of my holy grail products so I can’t rave enough about this product. It’s just amazing, blends well, so creamy, matches my skin tone perfectly and just stays all day.

Repurchase? YES YES YES!!

  • Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara – This blog post may have well been called “my holy grail products” because that’s what every product I’ve mentioned today has been. But saying that, this is my all time favourite makeup product. It just makes my lashes look amazing. However, I have recently discovered that a fresh tube, although the formula is a little wet, works so much better than after a few weeks/months and it’s dried out. That may just be personal preference but when I opened my new tube recently, the effects were so much better.

Repurchase? No thinking required, of course.

Now onto the two products that made my skin hell before my holy grail, Simple Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash came to the rescue.

IMG_4118.JPG

  • Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Facial Wash and Daily Scrub – I used the facial wash when I was in high school and remembered loving it so I decided to pick it up again but that turned out to be a mistake. Neither I didn’t realise the previous time how bad it made my skin or they have changed the formula or my skin just doesn’t like it anymore, but whatever this reason, when I used these products this time round my skin broke out so bad. I had about 15 spots, mainly on my forehead and chin. Like every human being I’m used to a few spots here and there but my skin has never been that bad before. But as soon as I stopped using them my skin started to clear up immediately, with the help of my trusty Simple face wash. I don’t know if it was just one of the products or both but I’m not willing to test them out separately to find out which one was giving me the issues. As you can see I didn’t even finish them but I wanted to include them in this months empties to let you guys know the problems I had with these products.

Repurchase? Absolutely not and they have already reached my bin.

I think each product I mentioned today, excluding the last two, has been in a previous empties post which just shows how much I love each product otherwise I wouldn’t keep on repurchasing them. Have you had any issues with any of the products I’ve mentioned or do we share the same loves? Let’s chat in the comments.

until next time,

xoxo, rachel

Very Mini Makeup Haul + My UGG Obsession | Tea Talk #5 | Sitting In The Clouds

TWITTER | INSTAGRAM

Welcome Back!!! This tea talk is going to be as real as a teal talk is ever going to get, except I’m drinking squash rather than tea but squash talk doesn’t sound half as good as tea talk does. I have so much to ramble on about in this blog post because it feels like I haven’t spoken to you guys in ages, I think it’s been less than a week but it feels like forever. So let’s start with the thing you guys clicked on this blog post for…to see what makeup products I picked up today.

I went to the highstreet to buy paint for one of my university projects and apparently the art shop we’ve had in our boring highstreet since we’ve lived here, 10 years, has decided to disappear when I actually need it…typical. But on the bright side, our Superdrug is still open for business and I was running low of a few of my holy grails so I had to pick up some spares. Luckily, both the products I needed were Maybelline and they were having a buy 1 get one half price offer on all their cosmetics so that was a nice surprise as I’m BROKE at the minute.

img_1120

  • Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Oil Blend Mascara – I received the Maybelline Falsies for Christmas so I opened it the other day so I could save my holy grail, Maybelline Sensational, and save some money by using a mascara I already own, but OMG, I’m sorry to bad mouth Maybelline because they are my favourite drugstore brand but the Falsies is s*** compared to the Lash Sensational. It doesn’t give my lashes any volume, and it barely looks like I’ve put any mascara on at all. So I’m super happy I now have a back up of my all time favourite so I don’t have to go through the torture of using the Falsies mascara again.
  • Maybelline Fit Me Concealer – Another holy grail product of mine. It has amazing coverage, it’s lightweight, it doesn’t crease and the staying power is awesome. Love this concealer.

So there’s my very very mini makeup haul for you guys. I didn’t see the point in doing a whole blog post just for two items so they ended up in a tea talks post. Now onto the next rambley section of this blog post, talking about my obsession with UGGS. I was lucky enough to receive another gorgeous pair of UGGS this year for Christmas, the grey minis (What I Got For Christmas). However, my mum got them on Black Friday to save some cash…I don’t blame her and because my size, a size 7, had all sold out, she purposely got an 8 so at least I had them to open on Christmas. We returned them early in the new year to get my actual size and when they were returned to us, they were the exact size we had originally, an 8. We called up, they apologised for the error, we sent them back again, only to have to wait about another week and a half for them to return to us…again. They finally, in the right size, got to us earlier this week.

IMG_1119.jpg

I’m a little obsessed with them to say the least. Today was the first day I’d worn them out as I waterproof sprayed them yesterday and had to wait for them to dry completely before venturing out in them. But they are beautiful and I love them so much. I actually have four other pair of UGGS, excluding my UGG trainers. I seriously have an obsession and as soon as I put my new ones with my outfit today, I had the wanting for the Chestnut minis because then I would have the complete set of minis. I’m so obsessed it’s unreal. They are just so comfy, they go with any outfit I put on and they’re just awesome shoes.

IMG_1122.jpg

And finally, if you’ve got this far and actually read this blog post I congratulate you because it’s just been so random. I know I have been off my blogging game at the minute and I’m trying my best to stick to my blogging schedule, Monday, Friday and Sundays but my first ever university submission date is steadily getting nearer and I have SO much work to do for it so when I’m off university, I’m working and in the evening once I’m home from uni, I’m working. I usually work until 9pm and after that I just want to chill out before I go to bed ready for another hectic day full of uni work. So I’m sorry for the lack of blog posts but my submission date is the end of this month, beginning of next so by February I should be back to my usual routine of dedicating Fridays to sorting out my blog.

Thank you for baring with me and please stay baring with me until February. You can keep up to date with my whereabouts on Twitter and Instagram, as I’m still on them constantly. I hope you understand and I will still try and get blog posts out for you guys every now and then, just my schedule isn’t really happening at the moment and I’m sorry.

until next time,

xoxo, rachel

Empties #5 | November | Sitting In The Clouds

Welcome Back!!! I can’t believe it’s time for another empties post. I remember posting my first one back in June saying I wouldn’t do them each month as I don’t tend to finish that many products but this is my 5th empties post, writing one each month, so I must finish more products than I realise. However, I only have four products this month but they are all great.

IMG_3361.JPG

  • Right Guard Women: I ran out of deodorant one day and found this in the bathroom cupboard, “borrowed” it and now I love it. Deodorant has never been a product I’ve researched or thought about but generally just picked up anything that’s on offer when I run out. However, I love this one. It really protects me for the entire day, I like the scent and it sprays really evenly.

Repurchase? Yes, I would definitely be picking up this one again.

  • Mayebelline Lash Sensational Mascara: If you don’t know, I LOVEEEEEEE this mascara. I’ve lost count the amount of times I’ve purchased it. Just get ready to see it in a lot of drugstore hauls and empties posts. (Review here)

Repurchase? No doubt about it. I knew I was running low about 2 weeks ago so picked up a backup so I didn’t have to live without it, even for a day. (Drugstore Haul here)

  • Maybelline Fit Me Concealer: I also love this product. I really think Maybelline is one of my favourite drugstore brands. The Fit Me concealer is really creamy, blends so well, has great coverage and is just so affordable.

Repurchase? Yes. I picked up a back up the same time as buying another Lash Sensational.

  • Vikor & Ralph Flowerbomb Perfume: This is my all time favourite perfume. I’m not even going to try and describe the scent because I won’t do it justice but just believe me when I say it smells divine.

Repurchase? Yes. I have it on my Christmas list but if Santa doesn’t bring it, I will defiantly be picking up another for myself.

Another post done and dusted. On Tuesday, I had my 6 month blogging anniversary and I’m so proud of myself to say that during that time I’ve been consistent and only had one break from blogging for my trip to Disneyworld. Here’s to many more months and years to come.

If you liked this post don’t forget to give it a like so I know whether to do more. I love hearing your feedback so leave any suggestions on improvement for even blog post ideas below.

until next time,

xoxo, rachel
