MOTD: Christmas Day | Sitting In The Clouds

Welcome Back!!! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and I know I said in my last blog post (here) that I wasn’t going to be posting a lot between Christmas and New Year but when I created this makeup look to wear on Christmas Day I knew I had to share it with you.

I’ve been gravitating towards my Morphe 35T palette ever since receiving it. I just love the variety of shades that this palette has, making it so versatile that it can create any look you desire, from everyday to night outs.

(Don’t mind all the cuddly toys in the background…yes I’m 19 but I love a good soft toy, especially Disney ones. And plus Tom contributed to a lot of my toys…and brought me three more for Christmas so my collection will forever be growing as long as he’s in my life, haha!)

I incorporated a deep cranberry and purple shade into my crease as it is Christmas. However, I don’t know why, but after about an hour of application those shades just look like brown, I don’t know if it’s just me or my skin or it’s the eyeshadow but it’s rather annoying. Let me know if you’ve had this issue.

(No I’m not asleep, Christmas hasn’t bored me although I am shattered)

(Simba says hi)

I’ve never really ventured out of my comfort zone when it comes to eye looks, I much prefer the neutrals, browns in particular but I thought adding the deep reds and purples, even though you can’t tell, really added something christmassy to the look.

Thank you for reading and supporting my blog. If you would like to see similar blog posts in the future, give this one a like. I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and are officially stuffed full of alcohol, turkey and Christmas pudding.

until next time,

xoxo, rachel

5 Things I Want To Do This Festive Season | Sitting In The Clouds

Welcome Back!!! Today was my last day of university before Christmas which means I’ve officially finished my first semester. I know everyone says that your uni days fly by in a blur but that’s a massive understatement. I remember my induction day so clearly that I can’t believe I’ve finished a whole term already. I’m loving every minute, of course it has it’s moments of stress and hardship but every part of your life has that at some point or another. But because uni has been so full on, for the first time in my life December hasn’t felt very Christmassy to me. It’s just been filled with assignments and deadlines and in my spare time I’m working to earn money and keep my head above water. I’m literally like a duck, calm and collective on the surface but paddling like crazy underneath. So now I’m officially on Christmas break for about a month, I thought I’d come up with a list of things I want to do to get into the festive season…finally!

Have a Christmas movie daystock up on all your favourite festive treats, put on your favourite onesie, make yourself a hot chocolate, grab a blanket and snuggle up on the sofa for an entire day to binge watch all the Christmas classics.

I’ve watched very few Christmas films this year which is so bad for me as I usually start watching them in about October/November. I really need a catch up and I think it would be a perfect Christmassy day to put all my fairy lights on and get comfy on the sofa and watch all my favourite Christmas films.

Read a festive book…I‘m an avid reader yet I never really read books relating to each season  we are in.

Books, especially contemporaries, give me all the feels so a Christmas/wintery read book that I can snuggle up with on a cold December night (totally copied that from a Christmas song..haha) would be perfect to get me in the festive spirit. And since uni has been full on, reading has unfortunately taken a back seat so I’m hoping through-out Christmas break I can get a lot of reading done.

Make a Gingerbread Housedo you want to build a snowman? No, but I do want to build a gingerbread house.

Making a gingerbread house has been a family tradition for a few years now, last year even a dinosaur featured. We just go crazy with decoration and sweets and this year we are combining the classic Christmas cake and our gingerbread house to make an epic Christmas dessert. I think it’s going to be three storeys high, it’s going to be EPIC! We blast Christmas music and just have fun and it’s definitely an activity that gets me in the Christmas spirit.

Have Hot Chocolatenot just any old hot chocolate but the hot chocolate you make with a pan over the stove.

I LOVE hot chocolate and HATE coffee so hot chocolate has always been my go to drink in coffee shops. I sometimes make hot chocolate at home with the instant stuff but it’s never as good. However, I was making one the other day and came across a tub of hot chocolate powder in my cupboard which said for best results to make it over the stove. I’ve always known that some people make hot chocolate this way but I personally never have. I think it would be fun to try and if I get whipped cream and marshmallows and all the added extras…maybe even a flake, it is Christmas after all, then maybe I could compete with the coffee shops festive drinks.

Go to Winter Wonderlandthe massive fun fair in Hyde Park.

Seeing as I live so close to London I find it strange how I have never experienced the magic of Winter Wonderland and apparently this year they have gone above and beyond any other year and it’s meant to be incredible. I really want to go and see what all the fuss is about. I know it’s around for a couple weeks in January but I think going before Christmas will make it that much more magical and festive. Maybe I can drag Tom along with me?

Surely I can get those five things done in the next couple of weeks? I’m so excited to be on Christmas holidays and finally having a break from uni. Christmas is truly my favourite time of year and I can’t believe Christmas is NEXT SUNDAY!!!! Like what?! Blown mind, the countdown is going way too quickly for my liking.

Are you on Christmas break yet? What plans have you got to help get yourself in the Christmas spirit? Let’s chat in the comments.

until next time,

xoxo, rachel

Tea Talk #3 | My Festive Weekend

Tea Talk #3 | A Festive Weekend | Sitting In The Clouds

Welcome Back!!! This past weekend was super festive and a perfect way to kick of December for me. My old town was hosting a mini Christmas event so I met up with my two favourite work colleagues to have a wander round. However, we ended up in Prezzo because the event was rubbish and when I say rubbish, I mean s***. I’ll just say that they made it sound so much bigger and better than it actually was. However, there were real life reindeers that we couldn’t help but have a selfie with them.

Although the actual event was very disappointing, the evening was still really fun with a nice catch up over Spaghetti Carbonara at Prezzo.

On Saturday though, the real festivities started as myself, my dad, my sister and her boyfriend went to our local Christmas tree farm to pick out our perfect tree. When we get a real tree, this alternates every other year, we always go down to the local Christmas tree farm on the first Saturday of December. This year it happened to be on the 3rd so we have our tree up earlier than most years but it makes me so happy because as I write this blog post, this is my current view….

It didn’t take us long to find our perfect tree so it was time to pay for it in a beautifully decorated “shed” and with great difficulty, which doesn’t get easier with every passing year, get our tree into the car to take home.

When we got home it was of course time to decorate our new addition to our home. However, uni is so full on and for some reason this past weekend in particular was hectic and work never seemed to stop. So for that reason, my dad sorted out the tree and put the lights on and when the tinsel and decorations needed to be put on, I stopped my work and helped. It was a lovely break from researching what different colours meant in different countries and cultures…it’s hard than it seems.

I think this is one pretty perfect tree for being real, look how symmetrical it is.

What I love most about my family’s tree is there is never a theme, there never has been and there never will be. All our decorations are memories, either from holidays we’ve been on or different key moments in our lives. Our christmas tree is always personal and unique and I think it’s perfect.

Opening the first door on your advent calendar, seeing your first Christmas advent on TV and turning up the radio when you hear the first Christmas song of the year are all momentous moments in the run up to Christmas, but there’s something special about putting up your Christmas tree and turning on the lights on the first time that is so christmassy and special which for me truly means Christmas is here.

Have you got your Christmas tree up yet? What festive things have you done so far in December? Let’s chat in the comments.

xoxo, rachel

Shakespeare and Festive Vibes | Monthly Moments | Sitting In The Clouds

Welcome Back!!! Before I get into anything I just want to say that I reached 400 followers last night and it feels incredible to have the support and love from all you amazing fellow bloggers. Anyway, back into the post… It’s DECEMBER!!! Christmas is my favourite time of year so I’m soooooo EXCITED!!!. But before I get all giddy about Christmas and start rambling on about it for ages, which would be highly likely, let’s see what I did in the month of November.

November only means one thing in my mind, Christmas is just around the corner so it’s time to start jamming out to Christmas tunes in the car, snuggling up the sofa at the weekends with blankets and hot chocolates watching Christmas films and spending all your change on those amazing festive drinks all the coffee shops bring out this time of year. Costa is my favourite so I always get excited to see their new Christmas cups and festive drinks menu. This year, I wasn’t a huge fan of their cups when I first saw them but they are growing on me.

My first drink of the season this year was Costa’s Mint Chocolate and it was nice but not as good as it has been previous years so when I went to Costa again I tried the Orange Hot Chocolate and it’s divine. Their Orange Hot Chocolate will now be my go-to festive drink this season.

This month I got Tom and I tickets to go see the play King Lear performed by The Royal Shakespeare Company at the Barbican Theatre. To be honest, I don’t like Shakespeare and don’t really get the language…it’s a shame they can’t perform it in english, but Tom does and he’s currently auditioning for drama school and one of his audition monologues is from King Lear so I’m glad he loved seeing it be performed.

And in return for me treating Tom to King Lear, he treated me to Hogwarts in the Snow at the Harry Potter Studio Tour. I’ve been once before but it was in the summer so I’ve never seen it all Christmassy and it was beautiful.

Seeing Hogwarts all decked out in snow and Christmas decorations really got me excited for Christmas.

Mickey Mouse also celebrated his 88th birthday this month and I dedicated a whole blog post about it because you all know how much I love Disney so how could I not? (Click here)

Also this month, I attended my first ever work Christmas party. I usually prefer getting ready for the party than the actual party itself but last weekend was AWESOME!! I’m so thankful to be interning at such an incredible company with some amazing people who just know how to have a good time. I’m not a massive party goer but for some reason last weekend was and probably will be one of the best parties I have and will ever go to. I can’t thank the company enough to welcome me with open arms and giving me some amazing opportunities. (I’m currently writing this on the morning after and I’m feeling so incredibly grateful). Although I am the youngest one and the intern, I never feel like it, they treat me like an equal and I’m so blessed. Sorry, I could ramble on forever about how good last weekend was and what an incredible company they are but I’ll stop haha!!! So just enjoy the few pictures I have.

Dress: My sisters wardrobe…it’s one of my favourite shops.
Shoes: River Island

My sister was also going out of the night so while we were both glammed up we took the opportunity to take some selfies. (My sister also just started her own blog, mainly beauty and lifestyle, a bit like me so if you enjoy my content, you’ll love hers).

Unfortunately this is the only picture I got of the night and I regret not taking out my camera more often but at least I know I enjoyed myself in the moment and I wasn’t living it through my camera.

AND finally the last thing I did this month was experience another Harry Potter film. That’s right, Tom and I went to see Fantastic Beasts and we both LOVED it!!! We completely forgot to take our usually selfie before the film but the screening was so full it would have been too awkward in anyway…haha!! Eddie Redmayne is an incredible actor and played Newt so well. I can’t wait for the rest of the films. I haven’t read the book yet as it’s on my Christmas list.

At the beginning of the month I really didn’t think my month was going to be as good as it was. I did some awesome things this month and some of them really got me into the Christmas spirit. Roll on December and Christmas and let’s party in 2017 with style! 2016 has truly been the best year of my life so far so I will be sad to see it go but I’m going to enjoy the last month as much as I can.

What did you get up to in the month of November? Are you excited for Christmas? Let’s chat in the comments.

until next time,

xoxo, rachel

P.S. I’m planning on doing the boyfriend tag/q&a so feel free to leave any questions you have for Tom and I in the comments.

The Christmas Tag | Sitting In The Clouds

Welcome Back!!! A post on a Thursday? It’s a bonus one but how could I not do a post to celebrate the fact that it’s the 1st of December today? Christmas is my favourite time of year and I can’t believe we have all officially started the countdown to Christmas!! Anyway, Jess from BeautyByJessBlog did this tag and then tagged everyone and I thought this was the perfect post to do today.

(banner picture: my own)

What’s your favourite Christmas film?

And so the hard questions begin. I can’t pick one…Home Alone and Nativity along with The Polar Express are films I love and make sure I watch each year. If I don’t watch these three films it’s not Christmas. Home Alone 1 and 2 have already been watched this year.

Have you ever had a white Christmas?

Yes. I live in the UK so it’s not rare to have a white Christmas. However, we haven’t had any proper snow, let alone on Christmas for a couple of years now so I’m really hoping for some this year.

Where do you usually spend your holiday?

It depends. This year Christmas is at my house but we alternate between our home and my aunties house. This is because my auntie alternates years spending Christmas with our side of the family and her husbands side of the family. However, this year I’m truly going to miss my little cousins as Christmas and Santa is all still so real for them and just seeing their faces excited is so cute.

What’s your favourite Christmas song?

I love every Christmas song but my all time favourite is “Step Into Christmas” by Elton John.

(click image to hear the song)

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

When my sister and I were little we used to open one on Christmas Eve but it always pjs we would wear Christmas Eve and it was a little tradition of ours. Now we are older we don’t open any of Christmas Eve, although I am guilty for looking for my own under the Christmas tree and trying to guess what I’ve got…opsie!!

Can you name all of Santas reindeers?

Nope and I’m not even gunna try. Rudolph is the favourite and only one you really need to know, yeah?

What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?

I love all my family’s Christmas tradition’s, we have quite a few which I will make sure to carry on with my kids. However, one of my favourite festive sayings is “eat, drink and be merry” and I just can’t wait to be on Christmas break from uni and chill out with family and friends, eat and drink loads and not care about the food baby I’ll 100% get.

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

Just like where I spend my Christmas, this alternates. If we are spending Christmas at home, we get a real tree and also put up our fake one…yes TWO trees, but if we are spending Christmas at my aunties, we just stick with our fake. I’m actually off to buy our Christmas tree this year this Saturday and I’m so excited.

This was my family and I putting our Christmas tree up last year.

What is your all time favourite holiday food or sweet treat?

PIGS IN BLANKETS!!! oh and Mozzarella sticks. My family has always had the tradition for as long as I can remember to have buffets Christmas Day evening while we are watching all the Christmas trash on television and also Boxing Day evening and I always make sure those two foods are within the mix.

This was me and some of my family digging in to it last year, and yes my uncle probably had too much mulled wine, haha!!

Be honest, do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?

Both! I love the opening presents and if you don’t, something is wrong with you. However, I absolutely LOVE buying gifts. This year, I have gone above and beyond anything I have ever done before for a Christmas present, and of course that Christmas present is for Tom. I wish I could explain it all to you about what I have planned but he reads my blog and it’s a huge surprise so I don’t want to ruin it for him.

Whats the best Christmas present you have received?

I’m so blessed to have received some amazing gifts over the years that I can’t pin point a specific one. Two years ago I got my dream pair of UGGs, my Chocolate Minis and last year I got my long wished for Ugg earmuffs, can you tell I love Ugg products? haha!! I wish I could remember more of the amazing gifts I have received but what can I say…I’m one lucky girl to be treated so well by loved ones each year.

What would your dream place be visit during the holiday season?

I’m going to let you guess before I say anything….got an idea??

DISNEYWORLD!!!!!!!!! But who wouldn’t?! It’s on my bucket list to actually spend Christmas Day in Disney because that would just be incredible!!!!

I have been lucky enough to spend New Years Eve at Disney while it still had all its Christmas magic. However, I think actually spending Christmas Day there would be a whole new level of Disney magic.

And to finish off this tag I thought I’d share with you a picture of me on Christmas morning 1999, that means I was 2 and a half years old.

That’s it. It’s December and the countdown to Christmas has officially begun. I can’t wait and although I want Christmas to hurry the f*** up, I also want to savour it. I hope you all have an amazing festive season and spend it with friends and family. Remember this season is the time for giving so give when and whatever you can to people who are less fortunate.

until next time,

xoxo, rachel
