September Plan With Me | My Bujo | Sitting In The Clouds

How are we in September already? Do you realise it will be Christmas in 114 days. I’ll just let that sink in a for a minute. But with a new month means brand new bullet journal spreads and reflection on how the past month has gone.

August Review

August was the first month in my brand new bullet jounral (my brand new bullet jounraland it went so well. I really started to use my journal as a memory keep sake, including daily doodles as well as a “scrapbook style” page.

What Went Well?
> tracking seperate sleep related habits as part of my sleep tracker. I tracked habits such as, reading before bed, wearing my retainer and if I used my phone/laptop before sleeping.
> the stats section on my blog tracker page allowed me, at a glance to see how well my blog has been developing. Unfortuntely August was down in everything compared to July.
> my daily doodles
> tracking my water intake daily

What Could Have Worked Better?
> my mood tracker, although so pretty to look at, it’s not very pratical. I can’t easily see what mood I was feeling each day.
> I didn’t end up liking using a seperate colour each day for my habit tracker. It ended up being a bit too distracting and in September I have really simpified it.

Weekly Spreads

I really loved how my weekly spreads were coming out each week so I kept them all similar, just with sublte details changing. I love flipping through these spreads even after the week has passed just to admire my doodles and remember what the week entailed.

Scrapbooking

IMG_5432.jpg

This was my first ever attempt at scrapbooking in my bullet journal. I had one of the best weekends in August, not only because I got an interview for the Disney Cultural Exchange Program (I got the email) but I also went to Friendsfest, an event I look forward to each year and Tylan, a youtuber I mentioned in my 5 Youtubers You Should Be Watching blog post, noticed me and replied. He actually thanked me for feauting his wife and him in my blog post. I was truly in fan girling mode. Therefore with all that exciting stuff happening to me within the space of 72 hours, I had to remember it in all it’s glory.

I simply printed some pictures and wrote some text to go along with the images. It’s not the most perfect spread I’ve done but I’m happy I’ve started scrapbooking in my bullet journal and I definitely want to do more in the future.

September Spreads

IMG_5436

Septembers colour is purple but I find the Steadler fineliner in the dark purple is too dark so I decided to use both of the purples and I really like how the colour combo came out.

I’m using the same spread style as usual for my monthly spread. I’m a creature of habit so once I find something I love and works well for me, I tend to stick to it.

IMG_5437

IMG_5438

I decided to switch up the overall font for this month and I absoutely love it. As you can see my spending tracker is exactly the same. This style works so well for me and I’m hestiate to try new ways of tracking my money. I’m also loving the ombre style my headers have.

IMG_5439

A new spread for me, the time log style spread. I have tried using a similar spread before but found I didn’t stick with it. I just found it too much effort. I’m trying something slighty different to see if I can stick with it this time but I still have a gut feeling that this spread just isn’t for me, but we’ll see.

My sleep tracker is fairly similar but with my new sleeping schedue of sleeping by 10 and up at 6, I feel like this spread will be really helpful this month. I have some new bed time related habits to track, ie up in the middle of the night and if tom is staying round. This month I also did little doodles to symbolize each habit and I love it.

IMG_5440

My final double page spread is my habit and mood tracker. I decided to put these two on the same page to see if there is any correlation between what habits I’m doing daily and my overal mood for that day. I also mentioned that last month I found my habit tracker too distracting with all the colours, so in September I made a grid and I will simply dot  the boxes of the habits I complete each day. I’m excited to see how it will turn out.

The mood tracker is the same style. I will simply place a dot next to a mood I was feeling that day. I have roughly done it from the best mood to the lowest mood as I want to then join the dots to make a line graph. My moods consist of, hyper, excited, happy, content, okay, meh, sad, cried, productive, stressed, annoyed and tired.

IMG_5441

And finally, next weeks weekly spread. I’ve continued with the monthly colour theme for this week but I do like switching up the colours each week. It looks really plain at the beginning of the week but at the end of the week, it’s so busy and colourful due to all my doodles.

So that’s it. August is over and September has offically begun. I’m excited to play around with my new time log spread and to see whether it will work for me this time round. And just generally start a fresh month.

Do you have a bullet journal? What spreads are you using this month? Let’s chat in the comments.

until next time,
xoxo, rachel

My BRAND NEW Bullet Journal | Sitting In The Clouds

I think everyone can relate to me when I say that it’s nearly impossible to finish a notebook when you are a stationary/planner addict like myself. Therefore I am proud to announce, not only have I finished a notebook, I have come to the end of my first full year of bullet journaling. I had used the bullet journal system on and off for a couple of years now, but my black hardcover Moleskin you are used to seeing in my bullet journal posts was my first proper one. I’m sad to see it end, but I’m also so excited to have moved into a brand new Leuchtturm 1917 Hardcover dot grid notebook in teal. I can definitely understand why there is hype surrounding the Leuchtturm, it’s amazing!!

The first major plus side with the Leuchtturm 1917 is that it comes with a built in index, along with page numbers already done for you. Although I never saw the use before, I am really enjoying it so far. I know in the long run, being able to flip back to some really old collections will be useful.

IMG_5285.jpg

I am only planning on logging collections and the page each new month starts on so my index doesn’t get over cluttered. I will highlight the month in the corresponding monthly colour, August being turquoise, for easy access later on as it will stand out from the rest.

IMG_5286

My opening page hosts one of my all time favourite quotes…”we take photos as a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone.”

IMG_5289

A brand new spread for me, my year at a glance. I’m loving this collection so far, I get to write down events I have much further in advance rather than just the month before. I have given each month a colour, as well as colour coding my events. My colour code system hasn’t change since my last bujo. Pink = university, purple = social/me, blue = hospital/health related events, green = work and red = holidays, whether national or personal, as well as birthdays.

IMG_5291.JPG

Turning the page is my birthday tracker. I’m not sure how much I will use this as I only have a select few birthdays I need to remember but it’s a pretty spread nevertheless. I love quotes so I try and incorporate them into my bullet journal as much as possible. I saw this quote on Pinterest and knew I needed it written down somewhere. “Age is merely the number of years the world has been enjoying you.”

The month’s colours on this spread correspond to my year at a glance spread.

IMG_5293

One of my favourite spreads I have done so far in my new bullet journal is my books and movies of 2017.

IMG_5294

I transferred this collection from my old bullet journal into my new one but changed the style of it slightly. Doing doodles relating to each film has really made the movie spread, in particular, stand out and I love it.

IMG_5296

IMG_5297.JPG

My next collection houses all of the films my two favourite actors have starred in, Tom Hanks and Jennifer Anniston. I say they are my favourite actors but I haven’t even seen half of their works so I want to gradually get through all their films. These lists will just help me keep track of them. Tick them off once I’ve seen them and highlight my favourites with a little heart.

I had to insert a dutch door in-between the pages to accommodate all of Tom Hank’s films. He’s done a ton and a full page just wasn’t enough.

IMG_5300.jpg

Next, I allowed myself a page for a list of books I need to buy, having had read them but not owned them and books I need to read. I also have a list of blog post ideas. Simple but very useful spread in the long run.

IMG_5302.JPG

Next, I have my “Saving Goals” spread. I’m not saving for anything in particular at the moment but I want to get into the mindset to save money from each pay check I get. I think it’s a good habit to get into. Having this spread motivates me to budget and put money into my savings as I get to colour in boxes. Each box is £20, once I have coloured up to the dotted line, I would have saved £100. Once this whole page is coloured in, I should have £2,000 in my savings.

On the opposite page, I decided to have my “30 Before 30” bucket list written out as I’m sure my savings will help me acomplish some of my bucket list items.

IMG_5301.JPG

My first month in my new bullet journal…August!

IMG_5303.jpg

Moving onto my first month in my brand new bullet journal. I stuck with collections that knew worked for me. As my bullet journal is so new, I’m scared to experiment just yet as I’m a perfectionist when it comes to my journal. Therefore you may have seen all these spreads before.

My monthly view is my usual one. I’m loving this style at the minute, it really helps me to visualize my month when I can separate my events into “all day”, “am” and “pm”. I also like having a space on the right to write any general tasks I need to complete this month as well as up coming events.

IMG_5305.JPG

IMG_5306.JPG

The dutch door style comes in really handy when you need more than a single page for your collection but not quite a full double page spread. Recently I have found that creating a dutch door for my monthly blog tracker and spending log works wonders. I have the perfect amount of room to include everything I need in each spread.

My blog tracker just includes a box to list all the blog posts I plan to publish, my monthly stats, as well as a notes section to jot down anything that comes to mind that month relating to my blog.

IMG_5307.JPG

My spending log has stayed the same for a while now as I’ve figured out exactly how this type of spread works for me. The bar graph style allows me to easily see how much I spend each day if any, and where I spend it. Each colour corresponds to a different category…purple = food, pink = me, green = travel, grey = car, blank = monthly expenses (Spotify, Netflix, phone bill etc)

It helps me to see visually, at a glance, where my money is going in ratio to different categories in my life. As you can see I spend a lot of food. The dutch door part of the spread, allows me to include a few extra areas relating to my savings, budgeting, and spending. I like to keep track of loans, if I owe anyone money or if anyone owes me any money. I like to budget at the beginning of the month and roughly jot down the key areas I will be spending my money this month, as well as how much ideally I would like to tuck away into savings.

IMG_5309.JPG

I have brought back the well-loved Tetris style mood tracker for this month but I simplified it a little by only including five shapes and five different moods.

I just love how colourful this spread looks once the month is up. Although it’s not the most practical spread, as I can’t see which day I was feeling what mood, it gives me a general idea how I was feeling overall that month.

As you can see another little quote managed to get into my bullet journal…” not every day is good but there’s something good in every day”.

IMG_5311.JPG

The opposite page holds my monthly habit tracker. A spread I have never gone without, even if it’s been weekly habits, I have always tracked my habits in some way. The month, I decided to colour my habits according to the day. Could you tell I love colour coding, each day of the week had its own colour…Monday = turquoise, Tuesday = pink, Wednesday = blue, Thursday = light green, Friday = purple, Saturday = dark green, Sunday = deep purple.

IMG_5310.JPG

IMG_5313

I also decided to bring back my sleep tracker this month. I just love the look of it when it’s all filled out but it also helps me figure out how many hours I should get to feel good in the morning. At the moment I am trying to train my body to be up at 630am so I can make the most of my day.

Hey look another quote…” you were born an original, don’t die a copy”

IMG_5314.JPG

You bored of turquoise yet? haha!!

IMG_5315.JPG

Finally, after 24 pages, we have made it to my first weekly spread in my new bullet journal and I have to say it is one of my favourite spreads I have ever done. My bullet journal isn’t just a place to write all my to-do lists down in, it’s a diary and a memory journal. Therefore, I love doodling a little picture each day to remember something that happened that day. The first week of August was a great one, I met up with my friends twice, saw Dunkirk in cinema and found out my uni grades (highest grade…WHOOP!!!).

I have finally figured out a weekly layout that works perfectly for me. It allows me to have a master task list, a section of notes, as well as a place for me to jot down any up coming events in the following week, as well as track my water and includes a space for my doodles.

IMG_5319.JPG

I did try and participate in the Boho Berry Challenge this month but did two days and fell off the wagon. I just don’t think this is my kind of thing. I still love the spread though and don’t regret trying it.

IMG_5320.jpg

This spread is the current week. Not as busy this week but I still managed to doodle every day and I’m loving it. You may have noticed that each week I am altering the boarder colour and style, as well as the week day dates and headings. It just allows me to experiment and mix it up from week to week without changing my entire layout that I love very much.

IMG_5322.jpg

Another quote…what?! This was actually said by my boss as we have done something after work on Tuesday for the past two weeks and each time it felt like a Friday. It also just reminds me that no matter what day of the week it is, you can make it feel like Friday with your outlook, therefore I put it as a reminder in my bujo.

IMG_5323.JPG

Relating to the quote on the first page, I decided to do a little doodle page of everything that makes me happy. This collection is a working progress but so far I have things like, Disney, Youtube, books, catching up with friends, country music and Tom. It’s just a little reminder than when I’m not having a great day, these are the things I know will cheer me up.

Yesterday I planned out for the following week, this is how it turned out.

IMG_5325.JPG

I changed the pattern and colour of the border again this week and really love it. My boss’ birthday is on Tuesday so I have already doodled a little balloon to visually remember that. I also have Friendsfest, a yearly event for Friends fans, on Sunday so drew out the Friends logo to signify that. Once again I changed the week day headers, just so I don’t get bored of my weekly spreads, a simple change can keep it interesting without having to change it all.

If you have made it this far I congratulate you, that was one long post but I hope you enjoyed it nevertheless and it helped you get some inspiration for your own bullet journal.

I absolutely love how my new bullet journal is turning out so far and have a feeling I won’t be going back to a Moleskin. While they are great, Leutthurm just gives you that little bit more space, as they are slightly wider, as well as the already built in page numbers and index makes for easy use in months to come.

What are you favourite spreads in my new bullet journal? Also what type of bullet journal posts would you like to see as these are my favourite to do.

until next time,
xoxo, rachel

June Plan With Me | My Bujo | Sitting In The Clouds

A fresh month in your bullet journal is always exciting as there are clean new pages to fill out and experiment with. This month I’ve kept some of my old favourites, and got rid of others.

IMG_5009.jpg

I hated the colour scheme I did for May so in June I decided to try something I haven’t done before and tried doing an ombre effect with yellow and pink. I’m really pleased how it came out.

IMG_5010

I stuck with my first double page spread being my One Line and Doodle A Day spread but I’m already regretting doing a Doodle A Day this month as I’ve been enjoying incorporating a doodle into the blank space I have left on my weekly spreads. Therefore this spread might get abandoned but we’ll see.

I realised in May that leaving only one line for my One Line A Day sometimes wasn’t enough so therefore I’ve removed the dates down the left hand column and everyday after I’ve finished writing my one “line”, I will put the next day straight underneath. This is just give me more room if I need rather than trying to squish everything together.

IMG_5011

Seriously without Boho Berry I don’t know where my bullet journal would be, she gives me so much inspiration for spreads. This circular mood tracker was inspired from hers, of course. It’s a simpler version of the mood tracker than last month’s. I will just rate the day out of 10 depending on how good or bad it was then colour in the according boxes. Hopefully it will make a cool patter at the end of the month.

IMG_5012

Within each spread I’ve made my birthday bold because why not? haha! My monthly habit tracker has pretty much stayed the same with the first section of habits. I’ve included a “creative time” as I’m officially on summer break from uni and I want to make sure I’m still creating things and keeping up my skills. The section underneath is all to do with my recent health kick. In 2016 I wanted to take up swimming and I’ve FINALLY had motivation to do so. Today was my first session and I really enjoyed it. I’m excited to go back and build up my stamina and just feel better about myself.

I’ve also been slacking on my water intake recently and because it’s getting warmer in the UK now it’s even more important for me to drink more water. Therefore I’ve made my daily target 3 litres. I’ve also added a “no food after 8pm” on my tracker as well because I want to train myself to stop late night snacking.

IMG_5013

My spending log is back because I find it really useful to see where all my money is going. Thankfully I won’t have to spend much on uni this month and there will probably be a lot of pink columns. It is summer after all.

IMG_5014

And finally before we get into my weekly spreads, I’ve included “20 Things I’ve Learnt in 20 Years” as I am turning 20 this month. I have 11 more days until I’m no longer a teenager so I wanted to reflect on my time on this earth so far and think about all the things I’ve learnt. Once this spread is complete, I would love to do a blog post on it, if you’re interested.

IMG_5005

This is my first full weekly spread in June. I’m in love with it already. I just love all the colour and the doodles I’m incorporating. It just makes me so happy to look at.

I have incorporated my water intake into each day with the squares on the left hand side. I just colour in a box for each 500ml glass I drink. This just allows me to track my water more easily as I know then if I colour in 6 boxes I’ve drunk my target of 3 litres.

My past weekly spreads used to see Saturday and Sunday share a rectangle but I’ve recently realised that I needed more room to write my weekend activities so I reformulated the layout to enable me to allow the weekend days to have a box each. I really like this layout now and think I’ll be sticking with it for a while. It also takes me half the time to create which is a lifesaver sometimes.

I’m really excited to be back in my bullet journal as in May, near the end I just couldn’t be bothered to fill in my spreads. With the little changes I made and how much nicer the colour scheme is, I feel like this month will be a good one.

Do you bullet journal? What spreads have you done for June, let’s chat in the comments.

until next time,

April In Review + May Plan With Me

Hitting 800 Followers & Life Updates | Tea Talk #8 | Sitting In The Clouds

WARNING: a lovely long rambley post

I haven’t posted in nearly a month which means I’m kind of out of the loop with this whole blogging thing and it feels weird to be writing again. Yes, I’ve been off my blogging game for about a month now, but I personally don’t feel this is wrong or that I should feel guilty for it. Everyone needs a break, not only when it comes to their blog but with everything in their lives. Whether it’s reading, bullet journaling or any other hobby you may have. And for me all my hobbies have taken a back seat recently, it just so happens blogging has been the most noticeable. University work has pretty much been my life for the past couple of months as I’ve been working towards finishing my first year and getting all portfolio work complete. Therefore, not only had my blog taken a back seat, I’ve barely touched my bullet journal and I haven’t finished a book in nearly two weeks. To be honest I’ve barely had any motivation for anything. But today, at 2pm my 4 and a half month long summer started as I handed in my portfolio.

However, for the past week or so I’ve been eager to get back into blogging but I feel the reason why I’ve had little motivation for it is because my blog is titled “a beauty blog” and I’ve been labelling myself “a beauty blogger” since starting a year ago. Don’t get me wrong sometimes I love writing beauty and makeup posts and I do enjoy experimenting and buying new makeup but out of all the topics I like to discuss on my blog, it isn’t my favourite. Therefore, starting today I will focusing more on the lifestyle, much like this blog post as well as including fashion as I love doing OOTD posts, and book side of things more. I will still be sticking a few beauty posts in here and there but I won’t be forcing myself to do an empties post at the end of each month, or always making sure I have new favourites to talk about. It’s no longer the direction I want to take my blog. But by all means that doesn’t mean I won’t continue to post this type of content nor enjoying reading other beauty bloggers.

And continuing on…sorry this is such a rambley blog post but while I’ve been away I’ve hit TWO major milestones in my blogging journey. I hit 800 followers, which is incredible, I can’t even imagine that many people. So thank you. But what excites me most is that I’ve now been blogging for an entire YEAR! I wrote and published my first post on the 22nd of May 2016 called Am I Really Sitting On A Cloud? and to this day it’s still one of my favourite blog posts I like to go back and read. I just want to thank you all for your continued support through-out this first year but even more so when I’ve been absent. I was still getting hits on my blog while I was away which is amazing as it shows people still enjoy my content even if I’m not posting consistently.

I’ve been away a month and although I wasn’t the busiest person in the world I did get up to a few things in the midst of the chaos that was my life during uni stress season.

So, What Have YOU Missed?

I spent a lovely long weekend in the Cotswold with my extended family to celebrate my Grandmas 80th birthday.

IMG_1617

IMG_1596

I celebrated the end of uni a week early by going out for drinks in my favourite cocktail bar with my friends in London.

IMG_1657

IMG_1665
don’t worry those drinks weren’t all mine…I think anyway.

I spent some great quality time with Tom which always helps me destress and just forget about my never ending to-do list for university. It helped that the weather has been amazing this past week even if the past couple has been the complete opposite.

Reading….

I’ve read a few books here and there. Reading has always been something I do to get away from the real world so I really enjoyed getting into bed after a full day of work or uni and escaping to another world.

If you saw my April Wrap Up you would know that I was in the middle of History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera last time I updated you. Unfortunately it was my second DNF of the year. My next read however was 5 stars and that was The Christmasauras by Tom Fletcher.

I’ve been making really good use of my local library recently and all my current reads have been library loans. I really want to buy a physical copy of The Christmasaurus though, it was too good not to.

  • The One Memory of Flora Banks by Emily Barr (⭐️⭐️⭐️.5)
  • We Are All Made of Molecules by Susin Nielsen (⭐️⭐️⭐️.75)

I’m currently reading Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.

ready-player-one-book-cover.jpg

This was such a strong book at the beginning, I was raving about it, I knew it was going to be 5 stars and one of my new all time favourite books but nearing the end it’s getting slow and repetitive. I’m still enjoying it but not as much as I was. It’s now nearing around 4-4.5 stars, it depends on the ending.

Bullet Journalling…

Much like my blog and reading, I fell into a little bit of a bullet journal slump in May. My monthly spreads got neglected, even my weekly spreads were failing me. However I’m so excited about this weeks spread as I think I’m finally out of my LIFE slump. I’ve added a lot of colour, doodles and stickers into it and I love it.

IMG_5005.jpg
I’ve been experimenting a lot with my weekly spreads at the minute as I was in my slump, trying to find a layout that would work for me and I think I’ve finally found it.

I’ve been very motivated the past couple of days in every aspect of my life. I want to make my blog better than ever, really experiment with my bullet journal, I’ve included a dutch door into my next spread, and I’m going to start swimming to get into a better healthy lifestyle routine. Let’s just say I’m excited about the future.

So yeah, I just wanted to let you know I’m alive and well and I’m officially back to blogging. I hope you’ve enjoyed this ramblely post and that you’re excited for the future of my blog.

until next time,
p.s. I’m really trying to grow my twitter presence at the minute so if you’re not following go ahead. I post a lot of blog updates on there as well.

April In Review + May Plan With Me | My Bujo | Sitting In The Clouds

I was so excited to use my bullet journal in April due to all my new creative spreads I had incorporated and they didn’t let me down. Bullet journalling is all about experimenting and not always the spreads you creative you enjoy and use to it’s full potential but I LOVED all my spreads in April, especially my Doodle A Day and the mood tracker.

IMG_4976.jpg

IMG_4977.jpg

One of my favourite doodles I did in April was my Beauty and Beast inspired picture that I did when Tom and I went to go see the new live action film, which we both adored.

IMG_4981.jpg

I LOVE my mood tracker spread has it’s just so colourful but it was also a lot of fun to fill out during the month, constantly playing a game of Tetris. I love looking at it and seeing quickly how I was feeling over the month, as you can tell April was a really good month for me, I was pretty much always happy with a few stressed and sad days thrown in.

IMG_4983.jpg

I’ve been really enjoying my new weekly spreads as they give me more space to write down my to-do lists but at the same time still enabling me to track my water for the week as well as keeping my overall notes, university and next week boxes at the bottom.

I’ve also been trying to do some blank space journal, I think that’s what it’s called anyway. Where if you have any space left over in your day, you journal about that day in that space. I, however, tend to stick to quotes/song lyrics relating to that days activities or feelings as I already have my One Line A Day.

Because I loved all my spreads in April, I repeated them all again for May. I regret using the colour orange as my overall theme for the month as now I think about it, it’s very halloweeney.

IMG_4984.jpg

I also really enjoyed reusing an old monthly layout in April, inspired by Boho Berry so I kept it for May. My month always look so free at the beginning but by the end it gets really hectic and full up.

IMG_4985.jpg

IMG_4987.jpg

I pretty much kept all the same moods to track, I replaced sad with cried and made it a light green rather than a dark green.

IMG_4989.jpg

I much preferred having my spending log landscape in April so used the same layout in May but removed the “Fun” category as I found that “Me” and “Fun” were pretty much the same thing. I also realised that ALL my money goes on food, who knew ahah!!

My habit tracker has stayed the same as well. I just enjoyed my bullet journal in April so much I literally copy and pasted it into May. So much so I traced all my headers as I loved them a lot as well.

However, if you’ve been following me for a while you’ll notice one major change, I no longer have a blog tracker. Although I want to use it, I haven’t paid much attention to it for the past couple of months so I got rid of it for May. If I can’t live without it, I can always reintroduce it in June.

Do you have a bullet journal? What are you favourite spreads to create each month? Let’s chat in the comments.
