Top 5 Skincare Products | Sitting In The Clouds

All my life I’ve been very lucky with my skin, no teenage acne, only a few spots here and there from eating too much junk, not drinking enough water, you know…the usual. But for the majority of this year my skin has taken a turn. It’s still not severe but for me but I’m struggling to maintain how it used to be. However without a few holy grail products, I would seriously be lost. And of course some of these products just help me feel pampered.

I use the Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash each morning and evening as my daily face wash. I’m only, at 20, getting around to understanding my skin and what it needs. I’m now pretty sure that my skin is more on the normal/oily side of the spectrum, which means the oil balancing side of this face wash really works well with my skin. The exfoliating beads are super gentle so I can use it twice a day without getting irritation. The scent is barely there, so if your skin is sensitive to perfume or fragrant products, I would suggest giving this one a go.

I actually had a break, a few months back, from this face wash to try a new one…this was a bad mistake on my behalf. It was when I switched things up, my skin really started to break out more and get worse. So I truly believe the Simple Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash is doing good for my skin.

Only very recently I noticed something missing out of my skincare routine that I hadn’t used in ages. This got me thinking, maybe that’s part of the reason my skin isn’t so great at the moment. Lush’s Mask of Magnaminty Face Mask has been a lifesaver for my skin recently.  I never used to leave my cupboard without one, but with university making me stretch every single penny I had, I never had any spare cash to treat my skin to this wonderful face mask. As soon as I could, I restocked my cupboards and have seen an instant difference.

The packaging even states…”This peppermint mask does everything it can to fight eruptions and outbreaks and return your skin to tip top condition“…aka, the miracle product I needed. I use it two or three times a week, depending on my skins condition and whether I have time. I like to apply a generous layer with my fingers, leave it on for 15-20 minutes, then gently remove the mask with a clean flannel. It’s a face mask that tingles a little when it starts to dry on your skin but that personally doesn’t bother me and afterwards it leaves your skin feeling so smooth. I just love this product so much and I’ve definitely learnt my lesson of always having some of this in my bathroom cupboard.

IMG_5107

The final product that’s really helped improve my skin over the past four(ish) months is the Nivea 2 in 1 Cleanser & Toner. I’ve never really been into toners because they always made my skin sting and I never saw the point. However, I picked this product up on a whim when completing a 3 for 2 offer on Nivea products and it’s now an essential in my skincare routine.

Applying a grape size amount on a cotton pad and use circle movements to distribute the product around your face and down your neck. I use this product after removing my makeup, it is only a night time ritual for me,  washing my face. Even after removing my makeup and cleaning my skin, there was still makeup in my pores, so this toner & cleanser just ensures my skin gets a deeper clean. It’s also super moisturising so I find I don’t need to apply a night cream after using it.

 IMG_5106.jpg

Now onto the products that just make my skin feel good. I’m guilty of not applying body butter as often as I should and I know my skin punishes me. My legs especially are very dry and itchy. However, during the summer, I always bring the Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Body Buttercream out of the cupboard as it just smells like summer in the tub. It basically just smells like lemon sherbet and I’m a sucker for citrus scents.

I apply this after very shower to moisturise my skin. Super simple but a step I feel most people either skip or forget about. I know for sure sometimes I’m just too lazy. But you need to keep the rest of your skin hydrated as well.

My body butter choices change depending on the season or what I’m feeling but at the moment I’m loving the Sugar Crush Body Buttercream from Soap and Glory.

IMG_5109.jpg

The final product I’m mentioning today is the Nivea Lip Butter. Ever since using this lip product on a daily basis, every morning and evening, my lips rarely get chapped, when before they were always so dry. Making sure my lips are always moisturized is also a key step in my daily routine.

Without these products my skin would be suffering a lot more but I truly feel like Lush’s Mask of Magnaminty is incredible and allows you to see instant results (I may go do one now).

Pink Pinafore | OOTD | Sitting In The Clouds

Weekends are for relaxing, eating and watching netflix and although I haven’t binged watched netflix in a while, I did have a lovely weekend spent relaxing and eating, along with kicking my a** back in action for my blog (oh how I love my new blog design). On Sunday I went for a pub lunch with my family and met up with my dad’s sister and her family, so my auntie, uncle and cousins. You can’t say no to free food can you? And since the UK is having another mini heatwave, it was definitely not the weather for jeans, even though they have been my go-to recently, in other words I have been super lazy. Throw on a t-shirt and jeans and I’m out the door.

Pinafore | Primark
T-Shirt | Monki

Choker | Forever 21
Shoes | Vans

This outfit is so simple, yet because the pinafore is a pink corduroy material, it just adds something different to the look. Primark have some really good stuff in stock at the minute but I find that if you don’t pick it up as soon as you see it, it’s gone forever. It’s happened to me a couple of times and it’s so disappointing when you can never find the item you have been pining over for so long. Therefore I picked up this pinafore as soon as I saw it, having no idea how to style it. I’m so pleased with how this outfit came out.

The pub lunch was lovely, especially their twist on the Knickerbocker glory desert, and it was lovely catching up with family. We even had a few cocktails in the pub garden afterwards as it was such a lovely evening. However, I was the designated driver so only one Archers and lemonade for me, my go-to mixer.

I really hope this weather lasts through-out the summer as it’s turning out to be a great uni break at the minute. How did you spend your weekend? Let’s chat in the comments.

until next time,

Primark Haul | Spring | Sitting In The Clouds

I could make up a ton of reasons why I haven’t blogged in two weeks and bore you with all the same excuses everyone makes but instead I will jump straight into why you clicked on this post in the first place….to see what amazing items Primark has in store for the Spring/Summer seasons.

It’s no secret now that for the past couple of years Primark has increased it’s pricing but with a price increase meant the items were that much better and you now no longer just go to Primark for the basics, you go there to get the “in” pieces for half and maybe three quarters of the price.

Sunglasses: Primark
Jeans: Topshop Joni Jeans

[The picture above is how I would imagine styling the Primark jumper, not all items are from Primark.]

In the UK we had one gorgeous weekend where the weather hit the high 20s and everyone layered on sunscreen, threw spontaneous BBQs for their neighbours and enjoyed the sunshine because us brits know to never take the sun for granted and as expected, the following day the clouds rolled in, the rain came and only a couple of days ago it felt like we were back in winter. So although it says Spring Haul in the title, it consists of more winter related items.

The first item I picked up was this gorgeous salmon pink jumper. I wanted it to be oversized and baggy, allowing me to roll up the sleeves and style it with jeans and a denim jacket, comfy, casual and cute so I got it in a size 14 and it’s the perfect fit for how I want to style it. [Inspiration from Zoellas latest clothing haul.]

I also picked up these cute mirrored sunglasses for £2, maybe they will bring some luck in the sun returning.

Jeans: Primark

I got this amazingly bright turquoise cropped jumper for only £5. It immediately caught my attention and when I felt how soft it was, I just had to own it. I think this is officially the brightest thing I now own in my wardrobe.

These pale pink high waisted jeans were also a bargain, only £10 I believe. They have little rip on the knees which I love and I think the turquoise jumper and these jeans would be a perfect spring outfit when the sun finally decides to show it’s face again for us. I’ve heard a lot of great things about Primark jeans so I’m excited to see how they compare to my beloved Toyshop Joni jeans as they look exactly the same.

IMG_5004.jpgPinafore: Primark
Jumper: Forever 21

The final item I picked up in Primark was this adorable corduroy pastel pink pinafore. I can tell pink is really in this season as it’s everywhere in shops and now apparently it’s appearing a lot in my wardrobe.

I’ve never owned a pinafore until now but always wanted to but was never sure if they would suit my body or my style. However, when I saw this I couldn’t not buy it. I imagine wearing it [like shown above] with a grey cropped jumper, knitted tights and Uggs. That outfit seems very wintery but if you saw the weather in the UK right now, you would understand why.

IMG_5002.jpg

I only picked up 5 items on this trip to Primark but I saw a lot of other pieces that looked amazing as well. Primark is definitely one of my favourite shops for clothes and accessories, not only for the basics but for some really fashionable pieces as well. Primark is upping it’s game for sure.

I will definitely be featuring all these pieces in OOTDs in the future as I can’t wait to wear them all and have already worn both jumpers to uni this week, so keep your eyes peeled for more OOTDs from me.

Thank you so much for sticking with me while I went MIA for a bit but I finish my first year of uni in May so it’s really hectic with a final push of work and blogging has had to take a back seat. I’m actually meant to be doing uni work now but one blog post can’t hurt can it?

Spring and Simple | OOTD

Spring and Simple | OOTD | Sitting In The Clouds

I’m not the most knowledgable person on this planet about fashion, the trends or what’s hot right now. I’d rather spend my money on makeup, books and video games than clothes. Most of the time I throw on a pair of jeans, a graphic tee, my go-to pair of uggs and head out the door. But on occasion I do like the spend some time going through my wardrobe and carefully pick out an outfit for the day.

However, I find it more difficult than usual if we are in those transition months, it’s not warm enough yet to go out without a coat but it is warm enough to wear some lighter pieces. So it’s a struggle for us girls to know exactly what to wear in spring season, especially if you’re like me and based in the UK.

Yesterday the sun was shining, which for me is very deceiving most of the time as you believe it’s going to be warm but most of the time it’s not. However it is spring so I wanted to start pulling some of my more spring/summer pieces out. I adore this jumpsuit but it’s definitely more suited for the summer months. However with some layering I made it more Spring appropriate.

Pairing the jumpsuit with some black tights and a simple black tee underneath allows an extra layer for when it’s a little more chilly outside than you expected. Throwing on a leather jacket, which aren’t the warmest coats in the world, also adds a different texture to the outfit…not necessarily a piece of clothing I would choose to keep me warm but it’s an iconic style piece that everyone should own. It in particular makes this outfit more “edgy”.

I wore this outfit yesterday to see my boyfriend. We ended up having a mini spontaneous day date to Nandos and then to the pub for some drinks to watch Man City V Arsenal. It was the perfect outfit as I didn’t feel too overdressed but also looked like I put in some effort when all I did was put a one piece on and add a few accessories.

I really liked how this outfit came together in the end and I’m excited to try more outfits similar in the future. I just need some spare cash in my purse to buy some new wardrobe pieces…student life.

I hope you enjoyed it and let me know what you think.

The Power of Makeup

L’Oreal V Maybelline | Foundation Wars | Sitting In The Clouds

When there are so many different products on the market which are so similar it’s hard to know exactly which one will suit you best and which one you’ll fall head over heels in love with. There are so many factors to consider and without having tried and tested each one in turn, it’s sometimes impossible to make the right choice. But don’t fret, today I’ll be comparing two of the most spoken about drugstore foundations that are currently on the market, the L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Matte and the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation. Both offer similar things but at the end of the day which one comes out on top?

IMG_4575

The L’Oreal Infallible Matte foundation has been my go to for about a year now. I love L’Oreal foundations, I used to use their highly acclaimed True Match, as they have a wide range of shades allowing anyone to get their exact shade…or near enough, which is something other high-street brands are still struggling to get right. However when my shade, Natural Rose, wasn’t in stock and I couldn’t pick up a new one, I decided to try a similar one that I had my eyes on, the Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation.

The other day I put them both to the test, applying each foundation to half my face to see how they faired through-out the day. I started this experiment at 10:30am, which was when I had applied my makeup. It was a weekend so I was only doing mundane household tasks, uni work, a few chores, blogging and chilling with family.

Both foundations are from the drugstore so both wouldn’t break the bank and leave your purse empty. I’ll start off by saying, both foundations are good for the price you pay. The Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless retails at £5.99 while the L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Matte prices at £7.99.

IMG_1346(LEFT: Maybelline Foundation | RIGHT: L’Oreal Foundation)

The first difference I noticed whilst I was applying both (I applied both foundations with a damp beauty sponge) was the consistency of the foundations. The Maybelline Fit Me foundation was a lot runnier while the L’Oreal one had a thicker consistency.  The consistency of the products could reflect on the coverage as the Maybelline foundation, I personally found, was more between light to medium than a medium to high coverage the L’Oreal one provided.

IMG_4579

IMG_4582

However, both foundations stayed true to their name about being matte. As soon as I applied both foundations they were instantly matte, no powder needed, although I did apply my trusty Rimmel Stay Matte powder to my entire face anyway.

IMG_1347.JPG(with concealer and powder)

After I had applied a full face of makeup and started to get on with my daily tasks I started to notice that I could feel the Maybelline Fit Me foundation sitting on my skin, which I had’t yet noticed with the L’Oreal Infallible foundation. Because of this I decided to see if there was any transfer with either one of the products. Unfortunately because of how much heavier the Maybelline foundation felt on my face there was quiet bad makeup transfer with the Maybelline Fit Me. This is one factor I have continued to notice with the Fit Me foundation, hugging my boyfriend now I’m conscious of my makeup going on his clothes. So even though the Maybelline one reduces and hides my pores and gives my face a really smooth base for the rest of my makeup to sit it feels a lot heavier on my skin. I did find though because of this, all other makeup applied and blended out a lot better thanks to the matte and poreless base the Maybelline foundation gave.

The L’Oreal Infallible Matte on the other hand is super lightweight, I never felt it as a second layer of skin and there was barely any/no transfer onto clothes when wearing this foundation.

IMG_1350

Through-out the day I started to notice a difference in how each foundation was wearing on my skin. The Maybelline Fit Me foundation says it’s for normal to oily skin, on that spectrum I class myself as having normal skin, yet this foundation was getting shiny around my T-Zone area after a couple of hours of wear. For this reason, I don’t believe the formula is suited for oily skin. To keep this foundation matte you would have to touch up with powder every couple of hours.

At the end of the day when it came to removing my makeup, the L’Oreal foundation was still intact, it was still 100% matte, no shine and no touch ups needed through-out the day which unfortunately I can’t say the same with Maybelline.

To be honest, I can’t fault the L’Oreal foundation. I wore it in Florida heat last summer when I went to Disney and I was walking around the parks all day, sweating, not once did I feel it on my face or it sliding off. It was definitely lightweight and when I got back to the hotel after a sometimes 9 hour day my face still wasn’t shiny. The packaging says 24H Matte, now it may not be 24 HOURS but it’s definitely matte for the entirety of the time you’re wearing it, 9 hours plus.

IMG_4577

So let’s recap….

Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Powerless Foundation:
– £5.99 (£2 cheaper)
– less coverage
– matte without powder to begin with but needs powder top ups through-out the day to stay matte
– feels heavy on the skin causing a lot of makeup transfer
– pore are less visible allowing for smoother makeup application and nicer blending of other powder products

L’Oreal Infallible Matte Foundation:
– £7.99
– higher coverage
– really lightweight, doesn’t feel like a second layer of skin at all, meaning barely any to no makeup transfer
– lasts all day without any touch ups

IMG_4578

Overall, for me the L’Oreal Infallible Matte wins this time around. For me it’s a better match for what I’m looking for in a foundation.  I love how matte it is and how it stays matte for a really long period of time. I don’t need to worry about being shiny through-out the day and carrying powder with me so I can touch up. So although it’s £2 more expensive and that £2 could get me a much needed hot chocolate, I would still choose the L’Oreal Infallible over the Maybelline Fit Me. I am a little upset about not liking the Maybelline Fit Me foundation though as the Maybelline Fit Me concealer I LOVE and adore and it’s a holy grail product of mine.

Having said all that, I’m glad to have tried this comparison, thank you Julie for suggesting for me to do this and I hope it helped you out, as I’m glad I have been able to try a similar product on the market but I’m sorry I just can’t fault the L’Oreal foundation formula.

However these are just my own opinions and everyone and their skin is different so I would love to know your thoughts on either or both of these foundations.

until next time,

xoxo, rachel
